Personally I think its important that free speech be allowed. You know sometimes we need people like Mr Phelps to make us think. To really look at ourselves and challenge what we really think, Do we really have all the facts? Is there truth in what this man says?

Mr Phelps, love or loathe him, stands for the christian god and the christian bible and he sure is taking that word for word. His beliefs are fundamental. The bible is clear, for example, it says all homosexuals deserve hell, as do all liars, adulterers and thieves , it does say slavery is OK, it does say that the christian is blessed for dashing non-christians babies on the rocks... You see at least Mr Phelps is actually being consistent with his Christian beliefs……he's being consistent with the real teachings of the bible after all.

Sure there is no way he can be labeled a christian liberal, but he is being consistent with his beliefs as they are written…. Jesus actually says that he will spit the lukewarm out of his mouth…. so thats the liberals done for…you see in biblical terms Phelps is actually taking an active stand for Jesus, for the god of the holy bible, and he's not being lukewarm about that at all.

You see we have a problem….for us to deny Mr Phelps his right to speak is intolerant and we become bigots by being intolerant of what he says by definition. He has a right to say what he will as long as he's not inciting violence or racism or being plain hateful. He has a right to practice his religion no matter how hateful we personally think it is……..

You see the real question is (especially if your among the 60% of claimed christians living in America today) do you actually consistently follow all the teachings of the bible? or are you picking and choosing and being a liberal who believes "god is love" even though the bible tells us otherwise? (by the way I have a degree in theology so please don't waste my time arguing otherwise)

I personally think that sitting on the fence is going to get painful…… Why???

    Let me explain……

I liked Mr Phelps, for no other reason that he practiced his rights and believed with his heart that he is right and that the only true god is on his side.

I believe people like him unwittingly have done us all a favour, yes he's done tremendous work helping bring to the general public the real teachings of the christian bible. He has helped the gay rights movement and agnostic atheism in america to grow tremendously…he has shown the world what fundamental christianity actually looks like in this day and age… He has shown us what religion looks like, and not just him but others like him are are showing us that religion world wide isn't pretty….. Just think 200 years ago this man would have been a hero, now we see him as he really is….. The worlds moving on away from religion as the statistics are showing us…lets bring an end to folk like Mr Phelps by encouraging him to tell us what the bible really says….

    RIP Fred Phelps….

Ummm..I do believe that he was practicing racism and being just plain hateful in his encouragement of the picketing of fallen soldiers funerals with their "God hates fa&$" BS. I'm not even an American yet I find it disgusting what they do.
Just look at their actual website and the title of it..really promotes the true meaning of the bible and love for all mankind! Lol

The world isn't "moving away from religion." Wealthy nations or what we refer to as "The West" is... with the exception of America. Which statistically is considered an outlier. But that's not the world.

Statistically people claiming to have no faith is growing dramatically world wide…. Its true as people become more educated there is less need for superstition. There are also many people who claim to be christians (etc) that do not practice, but prefer to remain "christians" by title only. Have a look at the statistics provided by many christian groups…very interesting reading indeed.

The Bible does not promote love for all mankind, its a fallacy. It actually says thats god's chosen few (which he picked before the beginning of the world) will go to heaven for eternity, and the rest that are not chosen go to hell also for his glory…

So he predestined some to heaven and some to hell. His choice not yours. An illusion of freewill but not free will….

Known as double predestination…look it up its an interesting topic…

Now what does it say christians should do to non christians….. just look at church history and you'll get the gist…

Mr. Phelps was just being honest about what the bible says, like it or not...

i'm sure my opinion will be unpopular but... a lot of things were done in the name of Christianity that are not what the Bible had in mind, they are just man's interpretation of what he wants it to say. Jesus was the ultimate fulfillment of the true meaning of the Word. The world would be a better place if we would all follow Jesus's example (weather your believe in him or not). Don't let a bad example (may he rest in peace) reflect on true Christianity.

Great use of the first amendment, rght up there with nazis who marched in Skokie, IL. Sorry to say that and sorry to feel that way. The criminal Phelps shat on the first amendment and elected to promote himself by tormenting the mourners and families - the wives and children and parents - of dead servicemen and women. I'm not strong enough to be a "turn the other cheek" kind of guy. I spit on his grave. I spit on his memory.

Well here you go - download and go wild. I think you'll find that the "dramatic" drop you claim is a little... Overstated.

Read post number 8 Mr Moo - he didn't break the law. American laws anyway.

Allow me to clarify. I didn't say the moral criminal Phelps violated the law or exceeded his rights under the constitution. I just said he (figuratively) shat upon the constitution (as was his right), however vicious, self-serving, venomous, reprehensible, misguided and despicable.

I see what you are saying - I do. Well l used too! Now though, now in the polarized America I have come to know, I don't.

You play the law in spite of your fellow man. There is no room left for compromise. You do what the supreme court says you can and that's it.

Tell me that's not the America of today? I would love to believe otherwise.
