Default Hillsboro Baptist leader has died...

The moron that organized "celebrations" at service member's funerals citing it was God's revenge against us has died. I can't say I'm upset!

One can only imagine he's doing some fancy tap dancing for St Peter at the moment, if you believe in that kind of thing.

Regardless, I think we can be bigger men than he was. Rest in Peace Mr Phelps.

Well he lived a long life. Sad that the news of his passing has made such a splash in the media, IMO.
Everyone begins to die as they are born.
I sure as hell won't miss him or his antics. JMO

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Any person who would condone hateful protests at a fallen troops funeral deserves to burn eternally. I have zero compassion for him or his followers.

I'm not going to be a "bigger man than he was". I'm glad he's dead and I hope he's reincarnated as a jackass.

Well... having lived in his hometown and seen his "work" for the last 6 years, I am torn.

When I moved here, I rather hated the man and couldn't understand why the First Amendment wasn't amended to not allow for hate speech. Surely everyone would agree that what he and his church do and did should not be allowed to occur in polite society! I mean to stand next to a fallen soldiers family at his/her funeral and scream how that family member was a fag, and how he or she wouldn't enter the gates of heaven!! Come on! That surely should be illegal shouldn't it?

But this is America! First you mess with one amendment, next you'll be messing with the second... I mean another. Who wants that?? Well, I can tell you doesn't - Americans. And as foreign as that might sound, no one can prove otherwise. You might not like it, but if your American, you allow for it so you can scream fire in a theater... Oh wait! You can't do that! I guess it already is amended. But what do I know? I am no constitutional lawyer.

The bottom line is, the very people they targeted, America's Armed men and women, died so they could picket their funerals. It takes a little time to get that, as its not intuitive, but it is was it is, and that is America. Personally I have come to respect the mindset.

Was he a good man? Yes, at one time he really was. He used to fight for the downtrodden. Successfully! Then he "snapped." But he didn't break the law! And the reason America to me at least is a successful nation and one many flock to, myself included, is because it is a nation built on laws.

There are jerks everywhere - he was very good at being one. America allows for all to be heard... even jerks! Deep down, you have to respect that.

His death is irrelevant. I'm sorry to say that his influence will outlive his physical form.

And his idiot family will carry on his "legacy". By giving him any mention here we're only helping it continue
