That's a neat bunch of lighters John.

I'm a low-tech redneck. Been known to use this to light my hand rolled smokes.

cotton sash cord, piece of brass tubing, flint, and steel made from an old file.

Nice collection John, if you ever come across a Zippo with the following inscription:
"Hail John, the world is your ashtray. " let me know, it's been missing in action for awhile.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

    Yep.

Teenage years: Zippos, cigs, and leather jackets.

This used to be a method,,, pure cotton cordage (rope) will smolder quite well,,, now most all advertised cotton rope has some type of synthetic mixed in it.

Neat collection! Always was obsessed with sharp objects, and things that burn.....
I have my Grandfathers cigarette case lighter I believe it's made by Ronsen, one or two Zippo's. I'd love to get my hands on one of those trench lighters, John. They're just to cool not to have one.

Trimmy, the Bowers Sure Fire sliders are still out there, Ebay is the main source, just have to stay away from the "Joe Camel" marked ones, as they are replicas.

The Fusee cord Bowers are hard to find , in all original condition.

You can add salt and pepper to taste.

The "trick" to lighting that stuff with a spark is to light it once and then draw it back in the tube to kill it. The charred end will catch a spark and light quite readily. It hadn't been lit in a couple a years when I made the little video a while ago.

I need a better flint, that one is about worn out.
