Thread: Gloves

I was cleaning a lighter tonight & as always I wear gloves. I have worn gloves, of various types, all my adult life. While on the job, I would go through at least 8 to 12 pair a day, depending on my unit assignment at the time. I thought that many members probably wear gloves during restorations & other hobbies. I am by no means an expert on gloves, I just wear them often & know which ones work for me..

I put together here some of the more common gloves that I use, should it interest anyone. Please add to the thread any type of gloves that you may use.

These gloves are Ansell clear vinyl, cheap & found at Wal Mart. They are for light duty & tear easily if put on in a hurry. Basically for household cleaning; they are my last choice.







These gloves are Curad Blue Nitrile, a stronger glove than ansell & great for chemicals. Cheap & at Wal-Mart; the problem is they are "Universal Size", really,,,, They can be a PITA to put on large hands, as you can see from the photo,,you sometimes tear them trying.







These gloves are Grease Monkey Black Nitrile, approx. $12.00 a box at Home Depot. I found these for the first time last week, they fit great & are not easily torn. These might become my go-to gloves because of quality,price & availability.








The gloves that I have used the most in my life are the Kimberly-Clark Purple Nitrile. They are strong, come in large & extra large. I've used them for just about everything, a great glove for chemicals or Bio Hazards (blood & other body fluids). They are not cheap, approx. $15.00 & ordered on-line.

I am happy for those who can wear them. Sadly, I cannot. My hands sweat profusely and I cannot feel a thing.
Perhaps I should try more.

Yes, I sweat too & for some projects I cannot wear them.

Having a job that is slightly medical in nature, I wear them when I need them. They are taboo for line handling, gloves of any kind that is. I also like to wear the nitrile gloves inside my gortex gloves when it is cold out. The grease monkey brand are my favorite nitriles, in part because they are textured, good tactile feedback and tough as hell.

I'm glad I found them last week.

No gloves for restores for me
When go in the woods, I use Mechanics gloves when I use my chopper.

I will say this, if you use gloves with powder you're really going to dry your hands out. I'm a big fan of the black nitrile gloves also

I've worn these routinely in my criminal activities since I got tripped up in my last bank robbery by fingerprints. I've found they reduce the time spent wiping away fingerprints and make getaways a lot more expeditious.

Back when I was an ironworker we used a variety of gloves. A lot of guys used White Mules. Back then IIRC they were made in Louisville, KY, feeding families and keeping a roof over their heads. This pair of photos, sourced from an ebay listing, shows they are now made in China. They were 4 or 5 bucks a pair in the late '60s ........ now, like everything else, multiply x 3 ..... The lighter weight glove was good for connecting structural steel. Better tactile feel. For tattooing I favored latex powder free exam gloves. I like the feel better than nitrile.

While I was working I would on occasion wear sap gloves.
