Thanked: 0Renaissance Men!
Razors, fountain pens, pocket watches.....Gentlemen, we are truly Renaissance Men. Having said that, promise me that none of you lads will start talking about tobacco-snuff boxes, walking canes or Barristers' wigs!

I think I'm the odd guy out here ---- straight razor shaving is the only retro thing I do -- and the appeal for me was not because it was retro but because it takes skill and because it's a little macho and difficult ---- am I alone or do I have to start using fountain pens and such? Will I be discovered soon and booted from the forum? Is that the SRP Gestapo knocking at my door? Go 'way, don't come 'round here no more. Who can it be now? Who can it be now?

Thanked: 9Justin - I favor carrots over the stick approach so here it goes:
Try a good fountain pen, I think you might like it
If you enjoy the razor gliding over your face, I don't see why you wouldn't take fancy to the pen flowing smoothly over the page. It also takes some skill to use one
Not so sure about the macho factor of a pen - but seeing your photo I don't think you'd be mistaken for a "girlie man" even in a tutu
Cheers

Thanked: 1Hey Justin --
If you start using pocket watches and fountain pens, you may just end up looking like this.
However, I'd prefer to dress like this every day (no joke). I actually looked similar to this on my wedding day (minus the cane)

You're not paying attention. I've already mentioned walking-sticks. I have about a dozen of them. I have one wooden snuff box with a sliding lid, though I usually use the little box the nasal snuff comes in. No barristers wig, however I've worn that sort of thing in period plays.

Ivo, for a while I had a Sailor 1911. I'd heard about their reputation for nib-quality and I wanted to try one. I had it fitted with a "music" nib (basically a very broad stub). It was absolutely fantastic - without a doubt the smoothest nib I've ever tried. A joy to write with. I eventually sold it because the pen was just a bit too big to feel comforatble in my hand. But I do miss that nib!
Interestingly, I must not be the only one who wanted a somewhat smaller pen; they now make a smaller size 1911 as well; I think it's called the 1911-M.
