    Hey Alex,

Since you have a new camera, I was wondering if you could post a video of the coup de maitre. that woud be great (somehow I just can't picture it and would like to see it in action)

By the way anyone else use a dip pen or just those newfangled fountain pen thingies?

I'm not sure. I've only visited online (obviously a bit of a drive from here), but you could e-mail and ask him. Seems to be a very friendly guy...

Dip pens. I have a few. One of the skills I'm trying to tackle at the moment is copperplate hand and I think that it can only be accomplished with a dip pen. I still suck at it though.

Man, you guys are dangerous! Now I'm thinking about a pen!

Would a FP be appropriate to "mark through" a carbonless quadruplicate form? Those are my workorders that I fill out on a daily basis, the original and 3 "copys".

    Thanks,

    Ray

Unfortunately no. FP's are like straights - No pressure.

yeah, sure. But selected pens only. They were called "manifold" nibs, and they are heavier built. You have to avoid pens with flex nibs. A nice rigid steel nib would be fine, or the Parker 51, which has very small and stiff gold nib, designed for a bit heavier writing. They are not longer made, but you can find some on ebay, or get it restored, in the 50$ ballpark. Alternative is the Hero 100, Chinese replica of the 51, every bit as good...

I am writing trough multiple forms with my Parker Frontier (20$), with no problem, but quadruple, I'm not sure it can handle...

The Parker 51 can't handle that kind of job either. I used one for years, and the wife has a nice 51 Flighter now. The nib just isn't stiff enough.

The 51 is a great pen though, IMO the best daily user FP ever made. They're not particularly pretty, but they're real workhorses.

One of the reasons I like pens is that the writing is light and flows. I used to write a lot, sometimes still do and your hand does not get tired and stiff

Some nibs can take pressure, indeed - but to me it just doesn't feel nice.

I don't use nib flex much even on fine delicate ones... Maybe sometimes when I do a sig with a flourish, but I have to be careful - some nibs can be damaged easily

    Cheers
    Ivo

I will post a link here when I am done, I will make a video of the way I, as a lefty, adjusted to FP writing. Keep an eye out.

The public link to my video is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jxrEXdkl2k

As of 0046 CDT, the video is still churning around the YouTube Server being put into the proper formats and all, so hopefully it will be up soon.

Edit: At 0047 CDT it is now working. Hopefully this answers a very small number of questions.

    Very nice vid....
I use a different technique though. I might still film that.

Now, the "coup the Maitre"? You mean shaving against the grain under the nose? Sure I guess I could film that.
