Default You know winter is coming ..........

You know winter is coming when you see city workers setting up the outdoor hockey rinks. Really wish I hadn't seen that today, don't need to be reminded any sooner that the first snowfall. What a place.

I have never seen that. I always thought they stayed there all year. What do they set up? I know only a West Coast Canadian would ask such things.

Yup, saw them setting up the rinks in Victoria park (Kithcener) today. They do two full fledge rinks there. One for hockey, one for casual skate. The one for hockey they set up end boards, and halogen lights on both.

Yea, forgot you left coasters are in a different country from the rest of us. They put the boards up all around the rink so you don't have to chase the puck in the snow when playing hockey unlike a pure skating rink where it doesn't matter. The boards come down in the spring so you can use the same area for baseball or other summer sports.

I know winter is coming when people put away the flip flops and shorts and pull out long pants. It was a chilly 64 this morning in AZ! It'll be long sleeve shirt time soon...
