I had an Uncle who was the owner operator of an Electrical Business that wired homes, business buildings new, remodels etc.

He Never Ever Changed his clocks they were always set on Standard Time.

He would say that he'd show up at a job and the customer would say "You're an hour late" and he would say "No, I'm right on time". The same when he was 'early'.

Damn I miss him, one hell of a 'different kind of guy' but you had to love him.

Is just a huge waste of time that serves no purpose anymore,I used to restore ships clocks (am down to 16.I used to have 60) all running, all keeping perfect time.Total PITA to have to reset them (esp the strikers).
Like Jimmy says above, time means nothing when your retired,Hell I never know what day it is anymore unless I look at the Calander.

Those are some beautiful clocks pixel.

I collect old barometers, from ships, antiques etc, I'm fascinated by them and the old lore painted on them, Fair, Bad etc....which of course means nothing. Now would those clocks in the pics be chronometers, as in the master time of the ship where all crew watches would be set to it, also in the sense of computing latitude and longitude for use with a sextant or some other navigation system?

What is the smaller clock face below the 12 position?

I don't know that the markings on a barometer mean nothing. If you keep track of which way the barometer is going, up or down, you have a fair clue what the future weather may have instore for you. At sea the Bosuns Mate used to have to make hourly entries in the ships rough log which included the barometer reading among other things. If you saw it was trending down you had a good idea that bad weather was on the way.

None are Chronometers,Chronometers are far smaller and set in gimballed boxes, the best were made by Hamilton and longines.
Sadley they are no longer needed as the cheapest Quartz watch from the dollor store will keep better time than the most complicated manual wind Chrono. The one in the center is actually not a clock tho is has a Chelsea clock movement inside.
Note the fitting on the bottom,Is a steam engine Chart recorder,a paper chart is placed on the silver face and the center arm has a small glass resevoir that holds ink, records steam pressure over 24 hrs.
Will post a pic shortley of a clock I just finished last week (for me) my last one.

Funny story from back in the old days of the Nightclub Biz

Year was 1981 ish We had multiple clubs along Hampden ave east of I25 for those that know Denver, I was working at Knicks in those days..
We did what is now very popular for Time Change Sat what is called the Extra Hour Party.. Back then it had not been done before, so in walk Liquor Enforcement and DPD to issue a ticket at 2:05 am.. A few weeks later in court it was finally in writing and legal that the time change officially occurred at 1:59:59am so it was legal to do the extra hour Parties

That is stunning, "Howard movement" - when I get back from the gym, I'm going to spend some time finding out about that.

The wife has been looking for a nice clock like that for awhile.

There's a new time setting that has to be included. Especially for us 'retired' folks. I used the ' ' because I retired six times after my first retirement. Can't really call myself retired because I'm still active with my creative work. The new setting should be called bladder time. Like clock work, can be counted on for accuracy for the number of times it wakes you and the exactness , by the clock, of the specific hour.

BTW pix, great mantle clock, beautifully done.
