Hey pixelfixed - that's a fellow Canuck you're talking about!

His name is Sir Sandford Fleming, who emigrated from Scotland to Peterborough, Ontario, (some great fishing there), and laid the basis for worldwide standard time (Universal Time), which led to time zones, and eventually to preserving daylight time, i.e, Daylight Savings Time. Interesting how it all came about..sorry...abooot:

"After missing a train in 1876 in Ireland because its printed schedule listed p.m. instead of a.m., he proposed a single 24-hour clock for the entire world, located at the centre of the Earth and not linked to any surface meridian. At a meeting of the Royal Canadian Institute on February 8, 1879 he linked it to the anti-meridian of Greenwich (now 180°). He suggested that standard time zones could be used locally, but they were subordinate to his single world time, which he called Cosmic Time. He continued to promote his system at major international conferences including the International Meridian Conference of 1884. That conference accepted a different version of Universal Time, but refused to accept his zones, stating that they were a local issue outside its purview. Nevertheless, by 1929 all of the major countries of the world had accepted time zones."

Fleming was into railways, and designing communications for submarines as well, fascinating guy, I hear he used a straight razor as well:

I despise the change. The spring kills me every year. The fall is an easier transition.

I have often thought of moving to Manitoba to avoid the whole thing...

I ain't crazy about it but I don't mind fall back. Spring forward I could do without. Kinda like you gotta take the good with the bad.

Better change that to Saskatchewan as the only province not doing the DST thing.

There isn't any benefit. It been proven to be a total waste of time. Energy usage doesn't change, death/accidents rates increase after each change with the spring being worse.

I could go on.... The Indiana study says it all. Usage went up, more people died.

BobH is right its The Sas not Manitoba. ☺

After every time change, for a couple of weeks one of my brothers used to ask "is that the new time or the real time?" He used to drive me nuts.

Still does, but now it's a shorter trip.
