"Chocolate will always be available if you have the cash and for the masses worse comes to worse there will be some substitute and 20 years later folks won't even be able to spell the word chocolate."
Much like 'simulated cheese product'.
Come spring, maybe I'll throw a few jugs of 100% Mennonite maple syrup on the classifieds.
They sell it on every main intersection, of ever small town in my area right out of their buggies.
I was lucky enough to have my own old maple tree to syrup from. 2 years ago it pretty much dried up. Its still alive, but its at the end, which makes me rather sad. I wont live long enough to grow another one to tap. Planted 10 of them anyways. hoping that someday some other wide eyed city boy can have a chance to know what real maple syrup tastes like.
And I will argue the chocolate I used to pruduce at the shop where I used to work was every bit as good as any Belgium brands.
But without duty fees! :rofl2:
We usually head up that way a couple of times a year. St. Jacobs market is a wonderful place to go and the area is postcard beautiful. As a matter of fact, was in Heidelberg a couple of weeks ago for a wedding.
Thanks for the reminder, that goes on the calender!
I thought Jane Goodall was in Africa, but I may be wrong :p
I've been hoarding chocolate for quite some time - in my belly. The only problem is that it needs to constantly be topped off, but so far I've been managing.
The only time I've made chocolate was when we were kids/teenagers and I remember it being quite good - not chocolate bar but rather chocolate spread consistency. Essentially it was mixing cocoa powder, melted butter, sugar, milk and milk powder to make a good smooth emulsion, then pour into bowls and let it cool. I should ask my mom to find and send me the recipe so that I can try it again.
That is a classic.
