A question on the constitution

We (my friends) sometimes joke about the Uncle Jim and Uncle Bob speech that Obama gave and say

Hey Obama why don't you give that speech to the Jihadis..

You know when your sitting around the dinner table, and Ole' Uncle Mohammad or Uncle Ahmed, who sits around listening to Al Jezerra News all day clinging to his religion and guns.. You know what I mean, you need to talk to them and explain to them how out of touch they are now...

Imho, the best we western countries now can do with jihadists is to support and help local governments and forces to get rid of those idiots by themselves. Just what we do when helping Iraqi troops, kurds and their peshmerga forces to fight Isis.
Also we can help those countries building stable societies where also ethnic and religious minorities have their equal rights. In such societies people usually do not have reason to get radicalized.

And the one unpleasant yet necessary thing for our countries to do is to look at the mirror and ask if we have given those radical idiots reason to exist. To learn and not make the same mistakes ever again. Can't just lock up innocent people for years without trial.
Maybe it is important and sad duty to get rid of terrorists the way or another. But we should remember that every innocent victim raises at least two more jihadists. So those who are now doing their job should look carefully not to harm those who haven't done anything against us.

Easier said than done but i cannot imagine any other long term way to heal the problem. All the other options only make it worse.

There's is something special in Isis as there are so many jihadists who have born here in the western countries. Maybe it's time also to think what made them choose so. Radicalism doen't not grow unless you give it a reason, righteous or not.

I am not sure if you noticed the label 'Legend' it means 'fiction' or 'did not happen'. They go through various things that did happen which sound close or may have given the wrong impression, but at the end of the day the conclusion is that there is no evidence about it happening. Even when real politicians have brought it up it hasn't been done - most likely because upon second reflection it was determined that it won't have an effect.

The verdict on Pershing was that he did the exact opposite - used minimum force and deescalated conflict on any possible occasion. And was successful. It makes a lot of sense to me.

Just like stories in the Bible: Truth, Fiction, or Urban Legend. I guess we won't really know until it's our time to depart from this world.

In the meanwhile there are real stories of success and failure. I say we learn from them and do what has been successful instead of keep repeating the failures.

That's because it's pointless to engage in false premise.

But since you seem to be missing it while just staring at it. There are international organizations who were created to set the rules how states should behave and deal with them when they do not follow the rules. They do not function all too well, and US like every other big player has its share of the blame for that disfunction.

It's not a cop out - it's the reality. We in the west have influence only over what the west does. That's why everybody simply ignored the straw man you set up.

US invaded Iraq, won, administered it for a while, then had democratic elections and the Iraqi people chose a government who represented the majority and was oppressive to the minority. The minority did not enjoy that situation and took matters into its own hands by supporting radical islamists who protected it from the governments oppression. For them it's the lesser of the two evils and as long as you are trying to force the larger evil back into them they will fight back. They are people just like the rest of us who do not want to be killed indiscriminately because they're slightly different. They'd rather have their own thugs protect them from other people's thugs.

Yes when you just pay your taxes, but somebody else has to deal with the horrors of the war it's easy to talk big words and think we just aren't violent enough and not killing enough of them, or treating them too kindly.

Now that I've had my 20 hours of sleep,,:rolleyes: I'll post a little,,,, I got the guns, ammo, snacks (can't fight all day without some quick energy) ,, got two plane tickets to Asia ,,,oh !!! wait a minute,, I can't take my guns & ammo with me !! They execute drug drealers, extortionists (anything over $85,000),,,, I've seen the condemned being trucked to the city limits,,, so did the rest of the citizens & tourists that afternoon. looking forward to another nice vacation. ;)

So back to being serious,,, all I care about is sitting in the living room waiting for me to get off this da#n computer; he turns 18 years in May. In the schools here Gugi (high schools) the parents must sign a ton of papers at the beginning of the school years, those include permission for the U.S. Military (recruiters) to contact by phone & talk to in person, your child.

My family has placed a man in every American conflict since the Civil War, except the Spanish American War, I cannot find any relative that served in that war. I keep the family history,,, what's left of it.

I have been dreading the day my son comes of age for military service, primarily due to last 30 years of mismanagement,,, he's all I have. I have always stayed open to the belief that my son will choose his own path, regardless of family history. Last week the Marines interview him at school, he does not bother to tell his ex-Marine dad, I find out driving down the road later that day via phone, The Marines want to follow up with me on some of the answers he gave them. I love the Corps, but not a call I wanted to receive. Not knowing who they were talking to, as far as my background, they promised to give my son a "non-combat" job in the green zone, so to speak, to keep him safe, basically. I lost it a little, told him of my family's history. There's no such thing as non-combat role in the military these days. There is no such thing as being "safe" in a green zone these days.
My son wants to fly planes, he knows the military will train him to do that,,, I have busted my ass trying to gather information this past month, that entices him to enter civilian flight schools,,, I really don't have the money, but I will find a way. I don't want to see him in a cage someday.

I wish my 54 year old fat a$$ could make the trip tonight & kill as many as possible Gugi,, so my son or anyone else's young son or daughter doesn't make it to the cage.

And since you've seen the same handled differently here, do you think one is preferable to the other? Is the lack of executions what is stopping the asians from looking forward to a nice vacation on the Florida sands?

The only thing worse than sacrificing oneself is sacrificing one's children. It better be worth it and we must remember that on the other side there are parents in the same position. Their kids are willing to die in order to kill all the foreign invaders who they hold responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocents as collateral damage.
