    Justin,

Very nice job by the way, as an old chippie by trade I still always appreciate seeing a fine timber finish with lots of colour and depth, and I think you have certainly achieved that for sure.

Two questions but I think you answered one anyway, how on earth did you mange to find time to do that floor, and posting 850 odd messages here between Jan and now?

And two I could imagine you buying a drum or two of CA and a couple of sheets of micro mesh and finishing the floor differently this time if you could do it over again.

    Good one Justin looks nice.

    Cheers
    John

Nenad, I would like the try that method as well. In a light traffic room with a good waxing I think it would be beautiful and relatively durable. Easy to refinish too. I'm glad you pointed that out --- oil/wax finishes are very beautiful indeed.

The floor was finished over a year ago -- had time on my hands then.

The process took about 1-2 weeks to finish.

I did it this way because I knew it would be difficult but beautiful --but yeah, brushing varnish (my first attempt) on a 18' x 15' room was an ordeal for sure.

    Next time --polyurethane with mop

But this was for my dad and mum ---so they deserved something special.

    Mark,

I'll be there when you have carpet to carpet flooring.

Love the job. I have a oil based wax finish on all my wood floors. they are a little hard to keep clean but when you re-wax them up they look as good as the day they originally went down, even if, (like mine) they are thirty years old.

Thanks --yep --- I think the trick is to not over-wax the floor ---less is more here,

    Fantastic job, Justin

I have plenty of hardwood floors if you need any more practice

I'm intrigued by the old school phenolic (sp) coating. My house is 76 years old and that sounds like a nice period restoration idea (someday )

    Hey Steverini --

yeah --- Behlen is the manufacturer of the stuff I used ---very good product and appreciated by the most snobbish of varnish lovers.

A waxed shellac floor was common 80 or so years ago (the most beautiful of floors I think). Do you have a cape cod style home (for some reason this is what I imagine)

Do you know what kind of floors you have?

Good to hear from ya Steve ----thanks for the on my job.

Maybe I can do a flooring circuit --from Little Rhody to California

Steve (pays me in clam chowder and seafood bakes) --- Mark pays me in Southern Cali food and mechanics lessons.
