Ah, wisdom of the ancients. That's right as far as I can see it. They knew the barriers were weak and they knew the storms were getting stronger. They did nothing before Katrina and precious little after. So let's tally that ... monumental failure = everybody's fault.

Thanked: 1The reference to new orleans was in relation to gratewhitehuntr's comment "other than drowning people in Bangladesh which who cares anyway, I don't see what the BFD is."
So its not just people in bangladesh its all of us. (us = residents of planet earth) that are in danger. I'm still on the fence about global warming if the experts cant agree I certainly don't know enough to pick a side, but you don't need to be an expert in any field to know that what effects others, needs to be our problem or it will become our problem, one way or another.
Edit: PS. As far as I know GW is a fact, Its only the cause thats up for debate.Last edited by heliguy; 04-29-2007 at 12:17 PM.

Here's a direct link to the video:
The Great Global Warming Swindle
it's quite long, but interesting.
jimmyseymour originally posted the link in the
'Second Hand Smoke. The Real Scoop' thread.
With this crowd, it was a natural progression from second-hand smoke to Global Warming (??!!??). Stick around...we'll probably be morphing to 'Disneyland's Influence on World Cuisine' shortly...but it WILL be an interesting ride!
I don't know about Al Gore's house, but it has been reported that he flies to and from all of his Global Warming speeches in a carbon dioxide spewing private jet!
(...what a putz!...)

Yeah, we really hijacked that smoking article so I started a new one. Sorry about that global warming took over a second hand smoke thread.

My comment certainly wasn't intended as a criticism...just an observation that these wide-ranging discussions can take on a life of their own....that's one of the appeals, IMHO.

BTW: After posting the above links, I'm re-viewing the movie as I type this! Interesting stuff!

No he doesn't live in one energy-ineffecient home at all --- he lives in 5 energy-ineffecient homes -- and rather large ones at that. His bathrooms are probably as large as the house I grew up in. Poor Al Gore --- he so much wants to be cool and liked.
Justin
P.S. I don't know for sure if it's five but it's more than a couple.

I don't know if you guys really understand the corruption of Louisiana politics ----it goes all the way back to the beginning of French rule. If you're looking for something or someone to blame for Katrina and New Orleans --- start with the hurricane (global warming?) and then next in line is Louisiana corruption ---- many years to build up the levees and come up with a plan for such a hurricane ---- money swindled in all directions. New Orleans politics is the most corrupt in the state --- a corrupt city in most areas. If I lived outside this state, I would question my money going to rebuilding New Orleans --- I would appreciate anyone who demands Louisiana to take responsibility --- Louisiana is a beautiful and unique state but its politics are the playing grounds for the inept --- just look at the Mayor of N.O. and Governor of Louisiana.

Thats always been my opinion, based on the sound bites on the news channels (granted, a decidedly poor choice of information sources from which to base an opinion!...but, hey, they spoon feed me with not only information, but my opinions, too!)
It is interesting to hear it from someone who is at the heart of it all....one who has his finger on the very pulse of Louisiana politics....the moral EKG, if you will, of the inner workings of the darkened back rooms and smoke-filled parlors that make up the veritable cess-pool of corruption, graft and influence peddling that passes for Louisiana politics!!!!
I think you need to run on down to the Big Sleazy and start kickin' butt and takin' names.
...go for it, Justin! We'll ALL thank you...
(...sorry...got a little carried away, there....)
