You stumbled onto the wrong thread. If all these guys had their way Social Security would never exist. Just another commie social program. Encourages old farts to be on the dole which is what it really is. Also don't get them started on medicare. it's just nanny state over reaching government.

Dont get me started. Sick wife on SSD. As soon as I take a job making $200 a week. They cut her healthcare. $15K in scripts alone last year.
I quit work she gets ALL her Dr.s Visits ,Testing and ALL MEDS for free.
Now the kicker.
Since I dont work Obama now gives me free healthcare and medications all for free.
Wait it gets better, then the government says We qualify for food stamps and here is $350 a month for food.
Short story I need a job that pays $20 per hour plus benefits and 40 hours a week to equal what the government pays me to sit at home.

You mean before Obama was President, Bush would never give you that? Reagan too or even Clinton? Gee why is Obama being so nice to you?

If you want to blame anyone for what doing this kind of thing costs, why not blame the companies that set and/or drive up the prices?

Drug companies, companies that make machines that go "bing", insurance companies. It's not Government with its snout in the trough, it's these guys. And the system they work in encourages the behaviour, since investors want returns and profit is all that counts.

If you couldn't be bothered to read it, here's the summary. Dialysis machines cost somewhere in the vicinity of 10,000-20,000 USD. Plus they need to be attached to elaborate water purification systems which cost about the same again. Then there's running costs.

The competition requires, among other things, that the machine developed costs no more than 1,000USD to manufacture! They think it is possible. If that's even ballpark achievable, my question is how much bloat, complacency, sheer greed is there in the traditional medical industry? Oh I know it's all R&D costs, the profit these companies make is so small we ought to just call them charities....

I'm pretty sure the longest running, largest operating ponzi scheme is still life itself as we know it.

Somebody first makes you, then feeds and takes care of you for at least a dozen years, sometimes way longer, and eventually you do the same thing for some other beings you call children to somehow justify it. If you're male they may not even have half of your genes.
