I think your misconception is that you believe this is your money - it isn't your money anymore than the salary of your congressman, senator, local police etc. is your money that you get to have back if you're not happy with the goods it bought you.
It's a tax you pay so that you get to live in this society and enjoy the benefits of that.

I don't think you're stupid, frankly I'm just confused. If you take a look at post before yours you'll see that Glen definitely sees them as a government run personal investments.

As far as I can tell everything is Obama's fault and nobody else is responsible for anything. But last time I checked Obama was elected by the american people, twice, in free and fair elections. So were all representatives and senators and their reelection rate is 90%.
Somebody is proposing as a solution starting to kill each other and somehow that will make America great.
