I've seen people do similar with charcoal lighter fluid while tailgating. You can actually see the flame ignite the liquid up towards the can. Luckily
I haven't seen one explode...yet! I don't even know if the clowns would feel it anyway. They're usually trashed at that point. Good luck with
    your recovery.

And for those that live in cold climates, BBQ'ing in the winter can be fun, but not when the stairs on your deck are covered in snow, and have essentially formed an ice slide down the steps. With one hand holding a large spatula, and the other a plate of ribs, sliding down the steps, dropping both objects, and then slamming both your forearms on the "Smokin' Hot" BBQ to stop your fall...got some nice 3rd degree burns with that little piece of utter stupidity...that incident always reminds me of this....

Get well soon, It's not much comfort to think about how it could have been worse. I guess the car broke your fall

I once was using a 22' extension ladder to climb to the steel web joists in a commercial building that still had a dirt floor. When I got to the top (the ladder was fully extended) I saw that there was only 1/4" of ladder hanging onto the joist. Thanks to flexing under my weight and sinking into the ground I had a real heart stopping few seconds while I eased myself down.

One of the most difficult things I had to learn (the hard way) is what not to do any more with advancing age.

As you know who says "A man's got to know his limitations"

    A speedy recovery to you.

Bill I hope you have a speedy recovery. I'm glad that it was not worse for you and that it was only life lesson.
Gramps had a stroke shoveling off the roof at 93. I got wise at 45.
Bill I wish you a quick healing and renewed vigor!

PS. If any of you get vertigo; a good way to get blood back where it counts is to really squeeze every muscle in your body...especially to ones hanging on! I had about a year of it after heart surgery and occasionally in the 16 years since.
The squeeze may save your life while driving.

Your a lucky man! We're not even aloud above 4' on a ladder at work without being harnessed....
I think the rule is bit over the top but stuff happens...

My neighbors dad fell off a ladder, not quite sure how high he was but he is now paralyzed.

Hope you have good meds. To get you through, and heal up!
