Thread: Self defense.

I was reading several post about cologne and thought about a trip I took to Spain a few years ago. 10 + hours in a plane and it was very close quarters. the bad thing is someone close hadn't taken a bath in about a year. or at least it smelled that way. Now B O is bad enough but add hours upon hours and it gets life threatening. I finely talked to an attendant and she let me have a little of her perfume on a tissue. It helped me make it back to Memphis. Now the reason I post this is to bring to anyone's attention that some of the sample cologne that SRD and others offer would have been very much welcomed. So anyone going on a long plane trip this is just one more thing to consider.

Sometimes smells are just too much and become offensive, whether they are intentional smells or those that come about from bacteria. I used to know a woman that wore so much perfume that when she was near my eye would literally tears up and run down my cheeks so bad it look like I was crying my eyes out. I try to maintain zero odor, except at bed time, after my evening shave.

Prior to losing my job last fall, I had to share a tissue culture room for a year with a woman who replaced bathing and possibly toilet paper with massive amounts of a horrid perfume that often triggered a gag response in me. I sat as far away from her as I could but she permeated everything. The entire room stunk of her long after she left each day. There was no way that any form of self-dousing would have served any form of self-defense from her funk.
Personally, I would prefer that no one's smell should project more than a couple feet.

Never a bad experience like that on a plane but it reminds me of riding on a rickity bus in the impossibly hot, dusty Morrocan Tetuoan hills. I sat near an old guy who kept eating these nasty little hardboiled eggs and he had hours of some serious egg-farts. Unlike the Utopian or rhensley situations all the windows were open but it didn't help as much as you'd think because for the bit of egg farts that got out, more dust and diesel fumes got in. If I go back I will take cologne.

I must include this anecdote when I write my memoirs.
