One thing I've learned as I've taken up a new hobby or interest is that there's often more than one way to do something, and sorting through the various suggestions to find the one that suits me can be challenging. Further, comments in other threads that are tangentially related to the original topic add even more options.

Challenging the responses may be the person looking to clarify the advice given to find the solution that is most suitable based on budget, circumstances, etc. if the person is less than tactful or not particularly skilled with words, the follow up may come across as more resistant and confrontational than intended. Or
they may just want their opinion confirmed and don't want to hear anything else.
When seeking clarification you have to state such so as not to sound confrontational. If you don't understand something then say so. No big deal.
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.
