Prayers sent from Texas! We were getting in fire danger from two months of no rain until last week, now it's your turn to get a storm or two.

You never know how close this kind of thing can happen. My son now lives about 30 miles further west, just off the major road to the coast, in a sparsely populated, heavily forested area. Over the weekend a couple of idiots were taking pot shots in the forest at various targets and hit a particularly dry piece of wood that sparked, glowed and caught fire. It quickly spread and consumed a number of acres, causing the need to close the highway in that section effectively cutting everyone off access to Portland. Thankfully the fire crews were Johnnies on the Spot and were able to contain it in a day and a half. Son is relieved and grateful to the crews since he only recently moved out there and has a bunch of forested acres.

Smoke from the Washington state forest fires have arrived here in South-eastern Saskatchewan. Smoke haze.
Is it over there or over yonder?

Thanked: 995It probably won't be over until the snow falls, but there has been a touch of rain in the past two days. Humidity and cool temperatures have at least lifted spirits.
I like this because it doesn't depend on electricity...

While it's been cooler here we had a bit of a wind storm that was quite detrimental to the fire fighters.
When I stepped out to go to work at 3:45am today I could see stars all over the sky, by daylight it was back to the overcast. Then about 11am it started to rain and it really cooled down.
We had about a dozen fire fighters in my store very early today/all wearing their custom T-shirts or Sweat shirts/ I thanked all of them and they smiled and gave a nod of approval.
One long time employee is a Volunteer Fireman in the small town of Milton Freewater which is about 10 miles away measured from City Limits to City Limits and he said that there was now way in hell that he'd fight wild fires/entering burning buildings was one thing, but having one foot on black and one one green was a whole different matter. A quick shift in the wind and you'd hope you could get back in the black in time (the black being where the fire had already been).
I've talked to a couple of farmer friends and they are done with harvest and would like to see the rains keep up for many a day.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
