Thanked: 4828I am well aware that those docile grass eaters can kick your @$$ without hesitation. I just didn't expect that someone that young would realize the wonder of the situation, of course before it became dangerous. There are all still wild animals and as such ever something as simple as a beaver can take a chunk of hide and make you wish you had thought better!
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Shawn,
All of my brothers, my sister and I are country 'raised' we've seen everything from kittens, puppies, people etc born so it's no stretch to witness the birth of an elk.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 3228Mothers of all species are normally very protective of their young and deserve to be treated with great caution. Even the lowly partridge/grouse hen will go on the offensive if she feels her chick are threatened. Had one fly up towards me feet forward making a great racket. Surprised the heck out of me at first. Then I thought what a display of courage considering the size difference.
I'd hate to be chased by an irate cow elk though.

We had an incident not so long ago in a Lion Park here in Johannesburg.
A tourist wound down the car window to take a photograph of a lioness. Needless to say, the lioness managed to get half into the car and maul the tourist. Unfortunately the tourist didn't survive.
People can be just plain dumb sometimes. We are our own worst enemies!Tony

Reminds me of a viral video a few years back of a guy who went Deer Hunting with his chums and he decided he would sit in a tree waiting for a deer and jump on it's back and dispatch it with his hunting knife. He did jump on the Deer alright but this simple non dangerous animal after bouncing him on its antlers a few times and carving him up with its hooves well what was left of the fellow his friends carted off to the hospital in very sorry shape.
Probably the Deer is still out there somewhere bragging to his friends what he did to the fragile human. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
