We have dealt with the yearly visits from all the bears over the years and never had to do more then shoo them off,...

Maybe a round or two into the trees by them if they were real stubborn
It seems there are way too many of these morons with lots of firearms who are itching for an excuse to shoot something, anything; I've knpwn 'em all my life here in the South! I'm a big bear nut-I might have a pic or two of bears I took in Yellowstone years ago on my computer somewhere if I dig around for it. And I fish in backwoods bear sanctuaries all the time here in our Smokeys, see plenty of sign, but not actual bears. Ive been around and owned guns all my life, used to hunt a little bit, but the few critters I dispatch these days are the ones hopelessly mauled by our cats!

I just have a soft spot for the big bruins, and there is something about that heightened sense of awareness, of being fully alive, when you are in their territory, miles from a car, and no longer at the top of the food chain. I am a little more alert in black bear country here in the East. When I have backpacked out West, deep in Grizz country, I could hardly sleep in my flimsy little tent, but still relished the experience. I sort of envy guys like you who live amid such splendor. Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado-the Rocky Mountain West is my favorite area on earth!

So they dropped the Blackie because it was harassing their cattle "Allegedly"

As I've said, I think that they should have notified the Game Officials and filed a complaint before killing the black bear. As shown a young grizzly may have been causing problems.

With that said, with all of the big game you have, perhaps this was based on your place there in the Boonies of Idaho:

That's a little different take on 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner'.

I guess that the question is; how did they get their 'quest' out of the house without Mamma coming into the situation

From the story, mama broke out the screen, and both had been inside for breakfast, mama was back outside, and the cub was coming back in for seconds when they got the pic and scared both off..
