Maybe statements like : "and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth" cause some confusion when talking about American government. But I believe the Founding Fatheres when looking upon the Greeks /Romans for infuence wanted to stray away from pure forms of democracy ---so in a sense didn't believe in true government by the people but by elected representatives. I think it's funny how people come out with polls showing the unpopularity of the President, etc and say government policies should change accordingly ---- I think this is what the Founding Fathers wanted to avoid ----wait until the next election and vote in a new bunch but meanwhile , hands off to the masses. I think they got it right.

Yep Justin 100% true democracy always results in mob rule! and then some insightful fellow wil come along and convince the"good people"that we need a good strong leader. after all look at what mob rule has done for you !! In the blink of an eye you have a new dictatorship! they might use any name to describe it but it will still be a dictatorship!

It's a little off subject (sorry Lancer) but I came across this article the other day. I don't know anything about who wrote it or what political angle it might be coming from but thought it was interesting:

jerks
Do we really think that a government-dominated education is going to produce citizens capable of dominating their government, as the education of a truly vigilant self-governing people requires?

Here's another good site http://www.zombietime.com full of hilarious but serious photos. Take it for what it is worth. Laugh, get mad, but ultimately dismiss the idiots.

What Ouch?
Yeah --- I know where the statement came from, thank you --- but it is still used by some when promoting the general populations role in government --- you're just reinforcing what I was trying to say which is that as our country evolves , the original intentions of the founding fathers gets obscured.
The statement I quoted as well as others might often be associated with the founding fathers, the constitution, etc as some might believe the statement "seperation of church and state" is explicitly in the 1st Amendment of the Constitution. Again, maybe some statements like : "and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not parish from the earth" might cause some confusion when talking about American government.
