Nice looking but the grain of the wood looks to be the wrong way to me.
Don't try to use it as a pry bar or it will crack.

It's as close to 'With the Grain' as I could get. #1 Hopefully it'll never need to be used, #2 it would be tapped on from the end to gently pry the two parts apart from each other.
Besides, if it does break my buddy has about 1500 board feet of the Black Walnut so I could always make more :w
He had a neighbor who was removing two or three big Black Walnut trees so once the trees were down he cut the trunks into long chunks, then sealed the ends and kept them stored for 3-4 years, then had a guy with a portable horizontal sawmill cut the boards into 1" thick boards. The boards are all stored just like the came off the tree with spacers in between them for air circulation.
He's made some nice pieces of furniture but now limits his work to smaller pieces as he has emphysema and he has problems wearing the mask with replaceable filters that I bought for him.
More than once he's said if he'd know the condition of his health he's in now back when he was offered his first cigarette he'd tell them to stick it up their arse!
Happy to finally find a cheap usb controller that works with my carving rig.

Bought a usb extender cable as well so can finally stop reaching for the keyboard from awkward angles to move my drive or axis’.
Thing has more inputs than I will ever need, as well as throttle type movements so I can move slow or fast per each axis.

Video games do have a use. Good thinking.
Careful,Mike. Those PS2 controllers are known to have sticky joysticks.. So use a new one, if that's been used for gaming.
Brand new off the slow boat from Asia Mike.
Even still, I will use the joysticks for rapid tool moves only, cause your right, a sticking control could break tools in a snap, pardon the pun..
Will use the 4 directional buttons for fine step by step macro adjustments.
Think I can map tool change presets to alt functions as well..
Still playing, just wish I could turn off the blue lights. A preset for gamers delight I suppose.
My lads on midnights this week so out of the bigness of dads heart I opted to start cutting up some cocobolo quietly this aft, old school with a pull saw.

Such beautiful wood..

Then I sliced it lengthwise.

Milled everything true with my new joystick controlled ‘graver. Worked the charm.

And I will keep the end grain matched through as I think the originator of this design would have liked.

Things are coming along.
Cheers gents.
