Hey Tintin. Yes, I'm runnin a strip of white LEDs around the upper inside of the walls and having them controlled by a dimmer/remote so Ruth can set it to her ideal brightness..
Going to mill a recess in the walls to accommodate the light strip and wiring. And also lining the bottom with black felt.
Hope to be assembling this weekend.

Down to the wire gents, it's how I seem to roll.
Finished building the base of the box, even as I struggle to make a new 'better formatted' panel for the lid.
Attachment 263205
Wired up the strip LEDs and hid them behind some safety mirror that I removed the upper strip of mirror surface from.
Attachment 263206
And tested out the wiring before getting to much further.
Attachment 263207
And test the brightness on one of the many failed do overs.
Attachment 263208
And I do mean many failed do overs....

Still not sure why the reference top height seems to drift over time, but I'm trying yet another cut pattern, going from highest to lowest carving points, as opposed to row by row, like a printer. Maybe by constantly rezeroing I will avoid the drift that has been plaguing me on this project..All these extra cut motions is making the carving time grow to over 12 hours though so each test takes a long time to find out if it's a keeper..
Anyway, almost done..thanks for looking.

Looking really good Mike, you'll get her done....it will turn out beautifully, and she will be touched and warmed by the family heirloom you've made.
Hopefully won't be to late a night for you....:D

Thanks Andrew, I have some makers mark to keep me company while the glue dries., but won't be up much longer. Let the gizmo run all night, like the cobblers elves. Hopefully I wake up to a nice surprise..

Came together in the end.
Linear bearing was the culprit on my Z axis. Some crap in the seal was causing binding at times on the upstroke.
French polish technique is time consuming but an amazing finish.
All I have to do now is sign the bottom and call it done for tomorrow's opening.
Thanks for the support along the way gents. Was really cutting it close.
Hope she likes it.
