Thanked: 1587There's nothing wrong with Patriotism. It's violence (or threatened violence) in the name of patriotism that sets me off.

Thanked: 1160Well sure, that's not hard to understand and agreed. We don't need mobs to drag people out into the street to burn. But maybe a little reteaching in the homes and schools about being grateful to your nation should be brought back from obscurity. Gratitude doesn't have to be violently enforced but reminded in a tactful way.

Thanked: 1587Here's an interesting thing I just found about some of the proper etiquette surrounding the use and misuse of the Australian flag:
The Australian National Flag should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use or discard.

Thanked: 1160Just something to think about......spend a while under a dictatorship with brutal draconian laws or masses of rebel groups roaming the countryside and then fight your way out of it.....bet your love for a free country and appreciation would bloom pretty quick. You would be flyin that flag high. Some in this modern day world don't have a fraction of what we got. Just sayin.

I just asked my youngest kid, an 8th grader, if they say the Pledge of Allegiance at school. Answer, "We did in
grade school, but not in junior high. The principal says we don't have time for that anymore." I didn't know that.
I'll have to have a word with her (the principal).
When I was in junior high, our social studies teacher was a combat vet in WWII Europe. Every year, he devoted
one class period to retelling his experience: he was an army infantry private, in the first company to cross the
Bridge at Remagen. He had photos he took himself. He wore a hearing aid and had a scared face, because a
mortar shell nearly killed him.
It left a lasting impression on us all. Thank you, Mr. North.
And yes, we said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning, even in high school. But that was before PC."If you come up to it, and you just can't do it, then that's jolly well where you are."

That pisses me off but I shall refrain from telling you how I feel about ignorant people who do crap like that.

Thanked: 250I was post bugler for our American Legion Post from 1973 until 2006 when I lost my front teeth. Every year we had a special service to retire old tattered flags. In the ceremony book there was a special bugle call I had to learn for it.

politically correct: conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated. (Webster's Dictionary)
From your previous posts on this thread I would think it's safe to say you were offended by your neighbor's actions. Was it your intent by knocking on his door to educated him on how to dispose of his flag as to not offend you and other like minded citizens? If you answer is yes and your neighbor holds differing political sensibilities to your own then wouldn't your actions also be considered practicing PC? Would that make you a "pansy"?Keep your concentration high and your angles low!
Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.
