The news/communication paradox cuts both ways.We live in a far different world than did our ancestors. Instant news and communication is available to anyone with a cell phone. I believe that, had that animal Omar Matten,believed that the resultant news images of his heinous act would not be instantly flashed around the earth, the likelihood of it even occurring would have been greatly diminished. But we can't push the toothpaste back in the tube can we? On the other hand, the internet could have prevented things such as the battle of New Orleans which took place 2 weeks after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed. But still,such acts sadden and sicken me.

When your sitting at home pondering these things it's an entirely different Universe than being in there among all the confusion and chaos. History has shown time and time again when something like that happens people just panic and freeze and the ability to think disappears. If you are one of the few who could take decisive action in that situation you are really special. Even if you were there and could think and were armed with say a 9mm pistol you would have been totally outgunned.

Sad.. I have read today where the shooter was known to frequent this bar and was a user of several gay apps.

Either he was setting up this action, or was very confused and angry about himself.

Might be more to it than originally thought?

I think it has become the responsibility of good citizens, who feel they are able, to get the required training and gain proficiency, then get a concealed permit and pack a firearm. I'd hope I never get in a situation where I find myself having to defend myself or others, but I'd sure rather have the weapon if it ever comes to that. Maybe but I was outgunned before with multiple mission under my belt. I,m still here Nelson, and not any more special than anyone in my outfit., just wasn't going to lie in a hole and let them kill me. So don't judge my reaction. What would you have done? Your a trained officer, my training was even a little more extensive than a police officer, but that aside, what would you do? Lay there and be shot? I think not. Tc

Not to mention how, in all likelihood, one bullet stopped him. 9mm hits a lot harder than .223 in a room, I would expect.
No firearms were allowed in this place. I may not carry often, but don't frequent any venues where this is the rule. At times, I expect my brothers to be armed.

JUDONO- Yep Judono what I may be carrying at any given time, but Yes, I have a BOB handy most of the time. Also have the latest in medical blood stops and other tech for Bad wounds, including Dr's in our family Group and an Mobile trauma unit.

Sometimes I wish for an old-time county fair situation. Everyone could be proud and come to the fairgrounds with their best.

Breaking bread, all that. Block parties..We used to have those.

In the military you are psyched up when out on patrol or a mission and are primed for action. In a civilian situation that's not the case.

No one, unless they have been in a critical situation knows how they will react and if they think they do they ain't got a clue. When the situation arises you are being tested and that's when you find out for sure.

Everyone says and hopes they would react positively and you know if you are in a situation like that laying down is the worst thing to do. It's movement and distance that will save your life. Most folks, even guys who consider themselves marksmen can't hit the broad side of a barn if the target is moving.

At any rate my point here is for the average human the typical first response is panic and and an inability to move or think or move the wrong way. No different than a herd of animals being chased by a big cat.

I'm just kinda torn on it, y'know? On the one hand, I've heard of people's purchases being delayed simply because they share a name with a convicted felon - with SS#s one would think this would not be an issue. So part of me wants to think that this guy's purchase should've been red flagged, denied, delayed or something. On the other, I know LE have their hands full and sometimes there just isn't enough to take action on until it's too late. Maybe I've just read too many fluff and nonsense conspiracy theories.

These events almost without exception occur in gun free zones. This is why if my gun isn't allowed in an establishment, I do not feel that I am willing to enter said establishment. To that end, it is prohibited from carrying a firearm into any establishment that serves alcoholic beverages as it's main purpose in Florida. Safe to assume the bar did serve alcohol and that was a primary source of revenue so it's verboten. So people with a defensive sheep-dog mindset are by and large not likely to be present. Also (and this is me stereotyping, I know) if you consider the type of people that would be attracted to that type of bar...well I don't think very many of them would be the gun owning/self defense savvy/die with your boots on type of people. You'd be hard pressed to find a softer target.
