Cut the cable 4 years ago and learned I wasn't missing anything. I refuse to even get an antenna for the local stations. I also discovered that I was $100 richer a month by not paying someone for the 495 out of 500 channels I didn't watch.
Honestly I am happier, get more done, and read more without having the TV on.“Hiking’s not for everyone. Notice the wilderness is mostly empty.” ― Sonja Yoerg

Waitaminute, what brought you to Dayton? I have some family that lives/lived in that neck of nowhere lol
I haven't used cable in over a year, all streaming. No cable, then I just work on razors. The power was out at my apartment a few months back and I was honing by flashlight!

I watch very little tv and if I do my antenna is made out of coat hangers. Much better performance than any purchased one I have tried since digital.
When I drive I drive and don't listen to any radio etc.
I don't "multitask" very well.
I don't understand the white noise idea. If it is worth listening to or watching that is what I am going to focus on.

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
