Are you kidding. She who must be obeyed
wouldn't let me within a mile of drilling holes in her nice new patterned concrete patio. She'd hit the roof and I'd be in the dog house for a very long cold winter.
In my neck of the woods you have 3 options. Gunite (like a concrete), vinyl liner with steel walls behind or preformed fiberglass. Most expensive by a lot is gunite because it has to be built to withstand harsh winter weather and extreme ground frost. Since my pool started life as a vinyl liner it was going to be much less expensive to do this reno keeping it that way. Putting in a gunite pool would likely be about $40k - $60k difference. The existing steel walls were in great shape so we elected to stick with vinyl.Keep your concentration high and your angles low!
Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

Day 12 Progress Report
This day reminds me of another song. Spinning Wheels by Chicago. My water meter wheel is spinning so hard even I'm getting dizzy. Couple of quick pictures of the results so far.
First pic is after 12 hours constant running all night long. Not sure we're making any progress.
Second and third pics are after 24 hours. Finally coming close to the side walls and creeping into the shallow end. Still need to get to the black line. Likely another overnight run.
Getting dizzy again. Got to sit down ........Keep your concentration high and your angles low!

Do you pay for water where you are?
I'm one block outside the "free zone", even though the Lake is at the bottom of my street, and the free water is one street to the West, we have to pay for our water.
If you're in the paying zone, yup, that will cost big time...but worth every penny.
Looks absolutely beautiful, expect to see a SOTD with a pool side back drop.

Thanked: 4207When I was growing up, we had a fireman living on our cul de sac. Ours was a concrete pool back then, and every couple of years when I had to repaint it my dad would invite him and the entire firehouse over for a bbq and pool opening party. They would run a firehouse from the street and fill it up in hours.
I recall it was freezing cold but they didn't care. Jumped right in, with smokes in mouth and drinks in hand..
This was the 70s though...
Do you have a gas heater for yours? That is really looking inviting!"Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Now-a-days, all the firemen would get fired and you'd have to pay for the water!
Gas heater for winter dips sounds awesome!
Do you have more than one spigot on the outside of your house? Also, depending on your kitchen/sink faucets, you could attach a garden hose adapter to one of them.Last edited by dinnermint; 09-22-2016 at 03:04 PM.

Yeah we're paying for this. I'm sure I'll choke on the bill when it arrives.
Yes but no HBO so that's a problem.
Sounds like a fun way to open up the pool.
Yeah. Thought of this about 2 hours agoKeep your concentration high and your angles low!
