Doom
Anyone here into the new Doom FPS game? I just finished playing the game on nightmare difficulty
I played a lot of Doom 1 and 2 in college, followed by duke nukem 3d and finally a ton of Quake 2 and Q2 deathmatch. Sometime after, I got into q3 arena.
Recently I bit the bullet on a gaming laptop (i7 Quad core, 16 G ram, Geforce GTX 960) primarily to do the hours of video encoding for my youtube knife making videos. And since it was capable, I also bought the new Doom game. I can honestly say it's the best, most fun FPS I've ever played. All the different elements are balanced well and it is a ton of fun while challenging at the same time.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Thanked: 4828I have not gamed since the kids left home. It used to be great bonding time for those of us that gamed. The two boys, my middle daughter and I played Halo a lot. With Xbox live and a high def projector with a 120 in screen and surround sound it was a lot of fun for several years.

Played Doom in the beginning. I'm not that big on FPSs any more but a long time notebook gamer. I just scored a pair of i7-6700K, 64GB ram, GTX 1080x2 notebooks to replace my five and wife's six year old ones. Long time Myst/URU/Cyan fan. Their latest 'Obduction' is killer. Giving Sniper Elite a try. We do console gaming too.

Yes notebook is understating it a bit. Har! They are high-end desktop components in a 17" laptop/notebook form setup for gaming. We can sit out in the yard in the evening cool and game our brains out. Can't do that with them fancy water cooled rigs. Har!
We had several Alienwares till Dell bought them. Then I found Sager with more high-end machine at less cost and bang for the buck on any of their rigs. Sorry to sound like a commercial but none of the others lasted 5 & 6 years with no issues and still able to play current games at low settings. The new games are getting almost photo real. The worlds/landscapes/scenery are mind boggling from the old Doom days.
Going to 4K 3840x2160 is eye popping from older 1920x1200. Now we have to get a 4K TV to push the games to. 65" TV no too small, hmmm 77" maybe but, a 85" now we are talking and it would only take a reverse mortgage, nailed it.
We play on Stream and Xbox but we are not very public.

Mine's the Lenovo Y700 with i7 6700Q 16G and a GTX960 which is basically among the very low end to be considered a gaming laptop actually. But the 500G SSD and having 8 computing cores is why I chose it for encoding my videos. Playing doom was more or less an afterthought. In bang for the buck I think it was the best high end laptop I could buy. As soon as I looked at higher end video cards, the available laptops ballooned in price. So in the end I went with the GTX 960 and honestly I don't regret it. It's plenty good enough and in a couple of years when the next doom comes out, I'll just have to buy another one
