Could easily be. There is always an undercurrent of hatred and bigotry in any country. It is when that gets used politically, making it somehow acceptable, to stir up fear then trouble usually follows. It should never be acceptable.

I am not trying to justify it but things have not changed, and I am sorry to say they probably will not.

I am saying that things have changed because the fear and hate that is always in the background looks to be going mainstream. In so doing is increasingly an acceptable behavior for an ever larger number of a population. Sugar coat it all you want and wrap it up neatly with a covering of nationalism it still stinks.

It does seems like there are repeats of history all the time. I believe there was a ver notorious German leader that began his first campaign for office with a slogan recently used in another election. I guess we keep seeing some of the truly bad things repeated. I wish I could figure out how to focus on really great things that have happened in history and look towards them repeating.

It's interesting to hear my friends up north discuss politics. I won't enter an opinion in your business, but I must say that, at least here in Montana, we love you Canadians--you're good people, as the saying goes.

    Thanks squatman.

ChrisL, I have heard all kinds of stories about all kinds of people having different religious conflicts. It is easy to be offended or be offensive when we are uncertain or incencitive of other people's religions or beliefs systems. I think once or twice I have been offended and offensive all at the same time. I think most times it is about trying and being polite about it if we have any chance of getting along. Once upon a time the residents were wrot with illness brought by the immigrants, and then the immigrants refused to help the people unless they would abandon their religion and language. I would hope that the world has come a long way since then and we can be more educated in how we deal with people who are different than us.
