This house is a protected building and there are certain rules you have to follow in order to maintain it. It's one of the oldest houses in Svendborg and is especially known for the door, what i've heard is the oldest in town. It was in really bad shape and litterally faling apart. The owner could not afford to maintain it and applied for permission at the city hall to have it demolished but they declined it. The department castle and cultural heritage (roughly translated I don't know how else to explain it) bought it for how much I don't know. It was then demolished but before it happened they had 23 architect students to measure and draw every inch of the house, so it could be build exactly like it was before. Everything that could be saved was numbered and placed on the exact same place again. It took almost 2 years to finish it and the cost was 6.000.000 DK/$871624. It's now for sale for 2.600.000 DK/$377703. Some say it's bad business but they saved a piece of history and thats what matter.
Unfortunately I don't have any before pictures

Thanked: 4826Still waiting for my lotto numbers. If they come in I may have to learn to speak Danish. That is super cool. You have many buildings older than the current government of my country.

Hehe so do I Shaun, especially after I found out that the church was for sale I started googling for other buildings that are for sale. Currently there are 3 castles for sale in Denmark. Grøngrøft castle is one of them. 7.500.000 DK/$1075932. It dates back to 1536. Pictures is from the sales ad.

I was walking around in Svendborg on the hunt for buildings decorated with the coat of arms. I know that theres one or two more but I can't remember which.. Unfortunately none of the three castles on the coat of arms exist anymore. The castle you see in the middel was demolished in 1658-1660 under the swedish occupation. The other two are a lot harder.. Seems that no one know what happened to them. The only thing thats left of them is the fundation hidden underneath the dirt.
Couldn't resist, such a beautiful ship in copper.
