That's got to be the Jolly Green Giant in Disguise, or the smallest ears of corn I've ever seen.

"Ol' corn hole", was scribed above the outhouse door..

My friend Joel (Benz) sent me some smoked beef tongues and part of the packing was an ad from a small store in New Salem. Being as I worked in the grocery business for over 40 years I'm always interested in things like that ad.

The canned goods were from a packer I'd never heard of (Butter Kernel) so I went looking--

The picture was from their website.

Why is Folgers Coffee grown in the mountains? Because the Green Giant is Peaing in the Valley--

Now that is a great shot.

It reminds me of some of the scenes in the BBC TV series Saving Lives at Sea. Done in conjunction with the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

This is actually a bit controversial as years ago Green Giant relocated it's asparagus canning to Chile (supposedly to help combat illegal drugs by giving the local farmers a non drug crop to raise) anyway there are many people still pissed off about it. Taking Green Giant out of Dayton would be like taking Boeing out of Seattle.

Green Giant made it possible for so many kids to go to college, my brother included and he ended up working in agriculture for life.

I will have to look into that.

Yesterday I watched an documentary about the drug lords controlling the Avocado crops in Mexico.

It has been the case in many organized crime syndicates that they control a variety or legit industries, in part so they can use them to hide contraband in shipments but also if you have a large controlled front of people in front of your illegitimate business it gives you a cover. A visible means of support you might say. I’m not a gangster and a drug dealer, I’m an avocado businessman.
