As a long time veteran of the Retail Grocery Trade and having spent time in the check out trenches I can tell horror stories of Filthy Dirty Disgusting Bags that customers would bring in.
The topper was that these 'Environmental Concerned Shoppers' wouldn't use the small plastic bags in produce or the meat department to put the items in--so you had not only the products to be purchased resting next to the old filth but new cross contamination!

This must be a cold weather thing because I'm clueless as to what it is. Unless you're getting ready to send smoke signals?

'IF' I'm not mistaken, he's trying to hold some heat in with the rug since it's so cold outside.
I know if the temps here are too low that I struggle to get my smoker to get hot enough to get the internal temp of things like smoked sausage done in time before they start to just dry out.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
