PS. Watch out for Disaster "Donation" collectors!!If you want to help, contact a group that actually is in a position to be of service. Such as the JC's or church groups.

Yes, there were a couple neighbors on Nextdoor who said that 2 guys knocked on their door but they were cautious & didn't answer. I think they did the right think. They were in a boat & had flashlights & could have been out to rob people & to take advantage of flood victims.

Also beware of national aid organizations like United Way, etc, who collect during disasters but don't necessarily use all of the money for the disaster. I recall that UW or someone of their class got a lot of negative press several years ago (Hurricane Sandy?) because they were not directing all of the donated money to the disaster at the time, but were instead skimming a bunch off and keeping it for other purposes.

If you can actually donate to someone who is on the ground and doing work, I think that's a lot more efficient.

Absolutely! You cant help them all. But if your in the area, grab up a family and feed them and give them a good nights rest. That goes a long way. Otherwise, just be careful who you donate too. These groups steal a lot of money and make a killing 8n times like this. Pisses me off! Ive donated to red cross. I know they are good people. Everyone should do all you can to help. Even if its just the change in your pocket. Do what you can as these folks have lost so much or all. Breaks my heart!

Ill get off my soap box now. Sorry for the rant.

It's okay Jerry, there are so many people with different scams these days to try & fill their pockets. Scammers have changed ways of doing things because some get caught at the old game so they think of new ways to get your hard earned money!

    Aloha!

New one that is emerging more as I age.

Packing for a trip this afternoon. All razors and shaving supplies are no problem as everything is ready in my Dopp kit. Looking for my travel Bourbon flask. EVERYWHERE. Can't find it. I'm sure I "put it someplace handy" so I could find it, but lord knows WHERE that handy place is.

So my new emerging pet peeve, putting something somewhere so you have it handy, and then not being able to find it when you need it.

Then it is usually right under your nose or so close that if it were a snake, it would have bit ya several times. I've done it & I hate it. I then have to trace my steps backwards & then I'll find whatever it is I was looking for. One thing that bugs me the most is when I have a tool like a wrench or something & get sidetracked & lay it down.

A few years ago there was a kitchen fire on my street. Not the whole house. I gave them one half dozen cheap flashlights.

A simple thing but it has gotten me new friends and friends of friends!

This is for myself more of my wife getting tired of viewing whatever I need handy and then she puts it away in someplace that make sense to her.....

Yep. Tool sidetracking is a real pet peeve. Done it many times.

The worst was a seven year loss (and I'm not kidding) of a fairly expensive Tag Heuer wristwatch. I took it off during a golf game on the very last day at a resort in Hawaii before returning home that evening (to my home island). So I took the watch off and put it in my golf bag and immediately forgot that I did it. I mean I totally forgot where I put it as I never took a sports wristwatch off when I played golf before. Traveled home (via air to my home island) put the clubs in the garage locker and then a day or so later I started looking for my lost watch when I realized I could not find it. I assumed I took the watch off and put it in my luggage to pass through security. Turned the luggage upside down, called the hotel where I was staying. No joy of course. I just assumed it was lost at the hotel somewhere and some lucky guy had a new watch. I have two sets of clubs and used my 2nd set for a while, then gave up golf for about 5 years. So it was 7 years later when I decided to play again with that original set. Opened the storage area of the golf bag to check on number of golf balls and there was the Tag Heuer. 7 years later.

Until I found the watch in the golf bag I had absolutely NO recollection of having taken it off and putting it in the golf bag. No recollection whatsoever. Since then, I haven't touched a golf club in 10 years or so. But I've not lost a wristwatch either since then!

I once put 80% of my paycheck in the inside pocket of my jacket.

I was verging on hungry that week.

When I found it 3 weeks later I was rich!

    I don't miss those days.
