Thanked: 3795I'll probably be sitting in a dimly lit windowless 10'x15' room at work, just like every other day.

i've done some looking into it (yeah yeah, pun not intended) and the "real" solar eclipse glasses are the same thing as welder's #14 filters. So if you have some of those lying around it beats the heck out of trying to find them at the store or standing in line.

Thanked: 3795So it might be the one day that I can wear one of my welding masks to work without getting weird looks.

Aloha!
I'm traveling on the Mainland, so I will at least get to see a "Partial" eclipse. Nothing in Hawaii, so I'm lucky I'm not there.
I'm not planning anything special. Just a quick peek at the partial eclipse. If I were traveling along or closer to the total eclipse path, I'd probably make a party out of it.

Don't you fools know it means the end of the world? So it doesn't matter what you do. Once the sun is covered you will see THEM coming out from the sun. Next stop earth.
make sure you have your straights in good shape. You might need them for hand to hand combat. Only those with a good supply of Lilac Vegetal will survive. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Kinda like you Utopian. Although my room is smaller (3X6) and moving down the highway. I'll be ready to turn on the headlights and hope no idiot stops in the middle of the road to get out and look. Or drive into the side of me when they get blinded from looking out the window. BTW, I understand I'm at a 100% spot.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Teacher workday here-We're right under it, so they're letting us out at lunch to go home and watch it. I'll probably catch it on my back deck.

Thanked: 3795Yeah, if your workspace lacked windows like mine, that would be a big problem. I think my area will be about 80 to 85%, so it will be about like an overcast day. I might step outside for a few minutes if it's convenient for whatever I'm doing at the time, but it's not going to be a big priority.

When I recently returned from my 3500 mile ride on my Harley I was riding up the Oregon Coast in what is apparently the 'Ground Zero' area to the 'Total Eclipse' and the locals kept talking how many people would be flocking to that area--up to millions.
For the life of me I can't see what the big deal is--I saw a partial eclipse when I was in Jr. High. Dad had me view it through a set of his welding goggles.
Sorry but it wasn't very impressive even to a young boy so I just don't 'get it'.
Oh Well. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
