How many hours a day do you sit alone in your truck with time to think?
Just teasing!
Let us know if you find a difference between 16.75' and 17.22' angle.
And then of course what alloy of steel it is!

Thanked: 3227You have to be careful when you measure for blade width. You do not measure from the edge to the top of the spine but from the edge to the hone wear, included in that is the width of the hone wear on the spine. The difference in results between the 2 ways of doing it is noticeable.
Normally, with a new or vintage razor with minimal hone wear I just slap on 1 layer of tape and hone. Blades with chips that need blade width reduced to get rid of the chips, I like to check what that has done to the geometry with the excel file incase I need 2 or 3 layers of tape to be in the ball park for bevel angle. I believe the ball park is +/- 2 degees either side of 17 degrees.

The problem is, your way too close to correct. In the morning between 2 and 4am my minds gets to thinking all kinds of stuff. Luckily it never anything illegal. Ha.
BTW, Bob, I've normally measured to the closest part of the hone ware to the edge. Not from the back of the spine. So I'm close but still off some. Thanks for that one. It's just Sharpening, right?

Your angle will be fine if it shaves and holds its edge,,, other than that what is there to know, heck I've even built a razor and still don't know what the angle is. Tc

According to what I've got for info right now, my razors range from 14.0 degrees to 25.8 degrees. I just like to have info.

All good to go now. I still got a lot of typing to do to input some new info but the program is all set up and working. It cost me 2 shots of whiskey, 2 beers and 3 brats. Glad he works for cheep when it comes to my computer stuff. The math part is doing its thing. I now have pics and notes linked to the spreadsheet along with any info I was able to find on all my razors. This might take me most the day tomorrow to get finished but at least the formatting is done to my specs. Thanks for all the comments and help figuring this thing out. And as far as why. Hell, I don't know. Guess because I can!

NOW, Its all done!
All info added to the spreadsheet. Took many hours. Checking measurements and adding in the info while typing with one finger. Well, One finger on each hand.
lol. I'm not a computer or typing kind of person but I got it all in now. Also arranged and oiled all razors so I'm now good for now. At least till I crash my computer or the zombie attack happens. Then I'm going to need a lot of honing.
Thanks to all who helped and posted, and to the folks that offered to help via PM. A great bunch of folks we got here. It's just Sharpening, right?

Through much trial and error, I have found that there are only two bevel angles... good and bad.

So...
Are you going to share your data?
Gotta say. I'm curious what about what you've collected.
