You know you can screw up anythimg
Deer season is open in TN. for black powder and that means I'm hunting now. I go down to the lower field where there is a ground blind and get in my chair do my best not to fall asleep. This is why I carry my Stanley stainless steel thermos full of coffee. I noticed the other day that the insides of said thermos was kind of in bad shape to say the least. I always rinse it out after use but over the years it's got lets just say nasty looking. I get the idea of washing it out with dish washing liquid and hot water. If any of have done this then you know what I did. If you haven't then DON'T. I have spent the last 2 days trying to get the soap taste out of it. I've use every thing I think know to man and it still taste like soap. Looks like it's going to be new thermos time. Just thought I would let folks know if the coffee taste ok then leave the thermos alone after all it's boiling water going in it!

I always just rinse them out with HOT water and call it good. Thanks for the heads up on lingering soap taste. I will make a mental note to not travel down that path.

Roger the vinegar is a great way to clean t and take away the soap taste, and as an extra measure add 3-4 drops of bleach to the hot water and vinegar, then rinse real good with hot water, follow up with drying it well , then your done. Tc

Buy some Espresso machine soap. It will clean the coffee stain off stainless in about one minute.
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

My first job was a bus boy at 14. It was a mom and pop breakfast joint. The waitresses always cleaned the coffee pots with lemon juice salt and ice cubes. Juice for the acid and salt and ice for a mild and effective abrasive. I’m of the mind, if it’s not broke don’t fix it. I’ve done nothing to my coffee cup but rinse it. Sure it looks nasty but my coffee taste great.

If you got big crusttys that wont come out, crushed ice and a lot of shaking works too.

Happy days are here again. The Vinegar must have worked cause the coffee was OK this morning. Didn't see any deer but had a nice cup of joe and a egg sandwich.
