Different kinds of code inspectors are assigned to different tasks. Some do housing inspections, making sure that your neighbors keep the grass cut and paint their old shacks. Some inspect businesses, making sure that signs don't over-lap into the streets and obstruct traffic. I do apartments. If your slumlord, er, landlord won't fix the hot water heater or a/c system, you call us and we set him straight. Just the minimum standards that many of us take for granted. It's hard to believe that many people still can't grasp the concept of minimum housing and safety standards.
