Thanked: 1Good night
Well gentlemen...
I've been kind of quiet here because lately SRP is becoming dominated by political threads almost as much as razor threads and because I still have a sour taste in my mouth from the last time someone insulted an entire group of people just because that group's veiws differed from the poster's.
I've debated about saying this and, in the end, I think someone has too.
I am leaving SRP for good. I've seen debates like this end up polarizing this community just several months ago and it cost the community 2 very valuable members and a lot of bad blood.
I recognize there are not "off topic" topics (meaning we can post just about on any subject we want). However, I'm tired of the political rantings on a shaving forum.
Let this continue much longer and I'm afraid of what SRP will degrade into. J's little test, I assume, was just not intended to start WW3 or open a political debate (J, if I'm wrong, I apologize). I see no cause for this to have deteriorated into an opportunity to bash America.
Now, I will make the following comments.
1. More world relief aid as come from the US than any other country I'm aware of. Our citizens are among the most charitable in the world.
2. If world history be remembered, if not for the US, most of the world probably would be goose-stepping today.
3. I see no fairness to blame the Bush administration for acting on the same intelligence that Democrats in Congress urged President Clinton, in a formal letter, to act upon (which if I remember correctly resulted in Clinton lobbing every cruise missle in the US arsenal into Baghdad(sp) ). Now, the information may very well have been faulty but it's the same information that the UN and Clinton and Democrats had well before Bush took office.
4. I simply don't understand why our liberal "friends" take every opportunity they can to criticize and bash this country. I thought liberals were enlightened and tolerant yet more vitriol comes from the left than any other side of the political/world spectrum today.
Guys, I'll miss most of you here and hope I'll see you on some other forum. Maybe I'm just thinking narrowly and there will be no lasting harm to SRP but.....

That just indicates that we don't learn enough from history. When a superpower starts acting in a truly altruistic fashion, I'll admit that the human race is heading in the right direction. I guess it will take a couple more millenia (if we're lucky and if we don't exterminate ourselves).

Too bad Steve -- I thought we were keeping it fairly tame. But I do agree that these political discussions and rants don't add much to this forum. I appreciate the views and thoughts of Ilija - but it is difficult to have such discussion without them becoming personal and heated ---- maybe in a couple more millennia

I'd be willing to agree to a cease-fire right about now in the interest of keeping things civil

Come back Steve! Come back! We were just playing. Everybody get together in a group hug. Somebody buy Ilija a beer. O.K., we're good to go!
