Thanks Tom.
I'm not sure how to explain it. I guess the topic of jewelry made me think of the really cool metal work that could be implemented into the designs.
There's that kiln and "silver clay" I've got in storage that could make some real cool bolsters, or even scales.
If any of you haven't seen it you might look it up, it's another addition to the underground complex of tunnels in that there rabbit hole..“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

I understand that the "clay" is a very good product. It obviates the need of a large kiln and torch. That, alone, can be a nice saving, plus a better work environment. Another beauty of it is that it may be molded in a silicone rubber mold and the mold may produce many pieces with some exactitude.
The manual I have says the "clay" does shrink but that should be easily cancelled out with the info on % they gave...and experience.
Let us know your experiences with it. I only did lost wax and silver-brazed wire and sheet stock

Hey, going back over this thread, I had a thought..
If you are good at enough at carving, perhaps depending on how intricate your intended designs are relative to skill and or intended level of involvement..
You might design and carve, or design and have someone else carve out the idea, make a mold, and cast a gold or silver piece to set those stones in.
Just an idea that might add another level of intimacy to the gift..?
There are a large number of people using that clay to make beautiful pieces of artwork/jewelry.
Perhaps they would be cheaper than traditional gold/silver smiths? I don't know one way or another on expense, but can say there is some beautiful and high quality work being done..“You must unlearn what you have learned.”
