So sorry to here you had to make the decision nobody wants to have to make for their pets. I know how you feel and I also know that time softens the pain.

Sorry to hear Jerry. Our drummer is losing one of his dogs today.

The wife dont like the name much but i dont think she is going to argue about it right now.

Red was just skin and bone. In the end we fed him anything he wanted and as often as he wanted, but it never helped. Just waisted away. Too old to try and do medical treatments. The other one was Duncan. Little extra weight and looked healthy. Blind and def. And couldnt find the littler box in time any more. Both had urinary failure but kept going. The wife has been dealing with it for some time but they were just getting worse. They didnt move much at all any more. Just slept. It was Just past time to go i guess. Its going to be a hard day but its life and it happens. Ive posted pics of both of them in the past.

Its helped me to talk about it. Thanks.

Jerry, I know your pain very well. Pinstripe (because of the white rings around the tip of his black tail) our first made it 21 years before kidney failure ended his time with us. A grand old guy he was. Next was Pixel (because of the multiple white patches on her black fur that made her look like a pixelated picture) who only made it to 5 because of a very unusual feline genetic disorder. Unfortunately there was no treatment. Then one day Perry (because he was always out exploring the world around him even in the winter) showed up at our back door. Already about 3 years old. Very friendly and loved to be petted and scratched but he would never come in the house. We figure he must have been abandon or abused. I built him a nice waterproof and insulated house with a heated bed for his outdoor winter nights. He loved it for 2 years. One week he never came back to it. I left it out for 3 months then finally put it away.

So now let me introduce you to our current girl of the last 6 years. Pickles! Yeah I know who would guess we would both name our cat the same. Our Pickles is not named after a drummer. It just flew out of my head for no reason other than all our cats names started with "P". My wife hated it but we sat over dinner and I made jokes about it. It stuck and now she loves it. The vet staff always tell us we pick the most unusual names they hear.

Just thought I would try to lighten up your mood a bit. Hope it helps. It's the deal we make when we take them into our hearts.

What a cutie. I love that caramel color. Got a feeling he's going to be a real rascal as he grows up but will be warmly loved. Thanks for the pic. I told my wife about your post and that you called your new guy Pickles. She laughed and right away asked if you posted a pic. I'll show her tonight.

He is not strong enough to hold himself up for very long yet. Plus i grabbed him up at 3am so id be wondering too.

    Update:
Of course with time its always better. Im ok but the wife still gets upset now and then when she thinks about it. It was the right thing to do and it was time. I thank you all for the support in our trying time.

The wife was impressed with the replys. She still think you all are rich coffee snobs. Ive explained you are all regular people, and some are retired. Some may be sitting fine when it comes to money and others struggle to enjoy this hobby. Some are insane about coffee or soaps or cooking but we are all regular folks.
