Default What do or did you do for a living

Ive always wondered about some folks here on the site as far as what they do. Now some folks you know what they do. Pics they post and comments they make. Or, like me, my forum name gives it away.

Now, i dont care or want to know, or think you should share the income you make. Like posting "I now make 6 or 7 figures a year". This would just not be right and i surely dont fit into that group of folks. Ha. Some of you are retired but it would be nice to know what you used to do.

So i will start by saying, im a truckdriver/Gasman. Im the guy that you cuss about being in the way at the gas station. I haul at types of fuels and deliver to many places. Not just gas stations. Being a truckdriver most people think that im out on the road for weeks at a time. I did that in the past, but now, i get home most every night.
I work 14 to 16 hours a day 5 days a week. It pays the bills and the wife and i live comfortably on my income. She WAS a phycomitrist (spelling) but decided to quit working when she hit 60. She is not retired formally but just dont work. We might not have everything we want, but we have what we need. I think someone else said that first. Ha.

Guess my name should be "Boxman" as i am a machine operator in a factory that makes corrugated boxes. Not glamorous like a truck driver but it pays the bills and i don't mind the work. Wish i could say i loved my job but I think those kind of jobs are few and far between. Just glad to have a job with good benefits and not hate going to work(been there 25 years).

My uncle did that for years. He always had a sharp knife. Sticking his hands in the machine and cutting out the stuck boxes now and then. I always wondered how he kept all his fingers.

Been retired for 6+ years now.

Had 28 years in maintenance with the U.S. Postal Service.

Around 18 years as a field maintenance specialist. I had a truck full of tools and went to all the town post offices and did all repair work as needed, installed mailboxes, worked on locks, safes, p.o. boxes and the like. Also did all the computer work in the offices and worked on the vending machines. We were flooded with work. Had 125 towns and 3 guys.

The last 10 years I was an in plant technician on the high speed mail processing machines. I was ceritfied in infrared thermography and airborne ultrasound. Worked extensively on the electronics and the computer programming. When you see the postal clip on t.v. at Christmas of a machine with letters flying thru it, those were the ones I worked on most.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it

Been retired for the past 8 years after working in a Kraft pulp mill for 36 years. The latter 2/3rds of that time as a clerk/shipper/forklift operator. Hated the workplace environment the last 10 years but it paid the bills and let me retire @ 57 with a pension and benefits. Yea, I are a dinosaur. Can't complain, haven't missed a meal in retirement so it all worked out in the end.

Just graduated college, surveyor (in training). Already been working with a local one for past 2 years while at college. I am the guy with the weird camera on a tripod by the road. Recently had pretty good interview in NC so fingers crossed.

Worked many different jobs. Press operator and coordinator and a couple factories, slaughterhouse (pigs), construction under in and on top of houses, auto painting, cattle ranch, greenhouses, and settled for a bit as a life support technician for SAT divers in the Gulf until being away from family for 7weeks at a time became too much.

Now I'm working construction while saving to launch a business this winter in a whole new industry!

    Hey BobH,
One of my careers was 11 years in a Newsprint Mill as an Electrical Engineer, so I am familiar with the fragrance. My first career was 24 years straight out of High School in Geophysical Exploration with a major oil company. Three years military service is included with that 24 years with the oil company. After those 24 years I went to Texas A&M (Gig Em), got a degree in EE and then started in the paper making world. Spent one year working for a company building custom electrical switchgear and custom electrical equipment for offshore drilling rigs. My fourth career was a total of 5 years in two Refineries as a contract Electrical or Instrument Project Manager and Engineer.

I've been retired for approximately 9 1/2 years trying whatever turns me on at the time. Still doing that but at a much slower pace now due to health issues. And yes, I are a dinosaur also.

I've been retired going on 15 years now.

I spent most of my life working for the now defunct U.S Immigration and Naturalization Service as a Special Agent and transitioned over to ICE after that.

I spent a couple years in the Navy after college and that's about it.

These days I used what I learned in Law Enforcement to rob banks. It pays the bills...har har.
