You may not know this, but a full-ized hummer would not physically fit on most european roads. Someone told me that the hummers you get over here are only 2/3 of the width of a US hummer.

I know many people overseas who will take a train for many many hours to get somewhere. As far as cars...if you look at the gas prices over there, it would make sense that driving far by far just isnt financially feasible for the large majority of people. I do know that I have met quite a few people in Europe that have never travelled more than 100 miles away from home...of course, I have met more people in the US that are in that same boat.

Hmmm... tax gasoline heavily and that should cut down on peoples driving and increase reliance on mass transportation....
....after not driving it much they might sell their car.....
....now totally dependent on mass transportation....
...wonder how many of these trans systems are government owned....
Americans see it as a right to own a car. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
As a matter of fact, my inability to buy the sort of vehicle I want is fueling a need to make a change in my life at this very moment.
How can you not like this truck???

The full sized hummer does fit on most European roads. It just doesn't allow much room for anything else. Besides if it didn't fit on the road, well nothing will stop it anyway.
GW this is what we need:

You'll never say "GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!" again.

NATO has them
Never seen them out on training?
I suppose not, I guess we had/have a major military presence in Germany but not Belgium.
In between Belgium and the Soviets (are they still called that?)
course that was just a 50 year cold war over idealism
My god, what kind of sick bastards would risk WW3 to protect helpless people from tyrannical rulers??

All of them actually. At least in Belgium. rains, trams metro and buses driver on time 95% of the time. On time being max 5 minutes deviation from schedule.
If you have to work in the city center, trains are the best and the fastest way to get there.
I used the train to go to college every day for 4 years.
It was a 35 min by train and bus. I think it cost only 400 dollars for the whole year.
You can own any car you want as long as it fits on the road. We have that same 'right' in Belgium.
But what is the point?
A car is for getting you from A to B in moderate comfort, as efficiently as possible.
Changing your lifestyle just for buying a car seems as strange to me as selling your house to pay for cosmetic surgery.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

It's also a status symbol, a object of pride.
A recreational toy.
For me It's my relax place.
Besides my "car" moved 12 sheets of plywood, 60 studs and 11 2x6's for a side job just last weekend.
Usually it is set up to move four or five dogs to training every week.
Earlier this summer it got used to camp in because money was to tight for a hotel but my wife and I wanted a weekend away.
Then it brought home a dozen bales or hay for my horses.
Without my van I couldn't live the lifestyle I want, have the job I do, or care for the animals I own.
