Thanked: 49https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ess-italy-says
CHeck this link from bloomberg. Median age is 80.5, the graph here says almost half who died had 3 or more pre existing, for non pre exist all ages death rate is .08. I believe many more are infected than we think. Based on that missing information this could be anything from a mild flu to a bad flu to worse.

Thanked: 3223This got me thinking, bad thing to do, and looked up the population pyramids for Italy, the US and Canada. It looks like we all have about the same percentage of people over 60 in our populations. That could mean the mortality numbers for all three may be close.

Thanked: 580As of midnight last night New Zealand is in total lock down except for essential services. Supermarkets, petrol stations remain open.
This is for 4 weeks initially, but pretty sure it will be longer.
The trouble with this virus is that you may not show any symptoms, but you are infecting those around you. By the time you show symptoms, you have infected others.
I have noted over the years members that are in the danger zone of this one, so keep safe Gents.Into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown ~ Jim Morrison

Thanked: 580Our government has reacted swiftly even though we only have 200 or so cases at this stage.
The way it is playing out in other countries, I would guess we will have about 2000 in a week or so.
I wouldn't underestimate this virus, will be devastating in poor and highly populated areas.Into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown ~ Jim Morrison

How do we prepare and with what.
What if the next pandemic requires the use of endoscopes and we only have 5,000 not 1.5 millions of them in the strategic reserve.
Being a little silly but how can we prepare for something we don't know?
Pneumonia is a pretty common killer and the result of our immune systems being compromised by many other things and allowing it in. So it wold be smart in the future to be prepared for that.

Thanked: 3223Looks like the Canadian Government is getting annoyed at people returning to Canada no going into self isolation and just made it mandatory under the Quarantine Act.
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/polit...cid=spartandhp
For those not wanting to read the article this is an excerpt from it regarding penalties for breaking it.
Starting Thursday morning, border officers will begin informing all returning Canadians and permanent residents of the new orders and telling them that they're forbidden to stop along the way.
Her department said maximum penalties for failing to comply with the order include a fine of up to $750,000 and/or imprisonment for six months. If someone jeopardizes another's life "while wilfully or recklessly contravening the act" the penalties are even greater: $1 million or three years in prison, or both.
That should make a few eyes water.

Thanked: 556We had an incident in Brockville this week in which a caravan of 20+ RV’s returning from the US parked overnight in a Walmart parking lot and joined the lineup of seniors for early morning entry for shopping. They compromised the safety of all the seniors in the line and refused to get on their way even after being confronted by municipal officials.

Maybe it varies from place to place. Apart from a some incontinent idiots buying too much toilet roll and those with a poor grasp of exponents, here in the UK we are mostly behaving sensibly.
A national request was put out for volunteers to help those less fortunate. Government target was 250,000. So far, 2 days in, more than 500,000 people have signed up to help.Last edited by welshwizard; 03-26-2020 at 04:49 PM.
