I'm talking the run of the mill flu not the really bad stuff like 100 years ago and yes I had the flu when I was around 50 and I was as sick as a dog.

That is what is so different and dangerous about this stuff. You can have it and not know it and give it to others and kill them. You can have no symptoms, mild symptoms wind up in the hospital and die. With the typical flu you get sick and can deal with it. Even the 1918 Flu didn't act like this stuff does.

    From Wikipedia:

Most influenza outbreaks disproportionately kill the very young and the very old, with a higher survival rate for those in between, but the Spanish flu pandemic resulted in a higher than expected mortality rate for young adults.[5] Scientists offer several possible explanations for the high mortality rate of the 1918 influenza pandemic. Some analyses have shown the virus to be particularly deadly because it triggers a cytokine storm, which ravages the stronger immune system of young adults.

And by the way, it infected a third of the world's population at that time which was a number of about 500 million people.

    BUT HOW WOULD YOU KNOOOOWWWWW???

If you don't get tested for the flu unless you're sick how do you know that you don't have it? You could be walking around with it for months every single year and not know it. We think that history started yesterday. The 1918 pandemic was a fancy flu. Just like this one. One good thing about this pandemic is that we'll know a lot more about epidemiology and antibody testing and mechanics.

So? What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Right now we are dealing with this tiger we have by the tail and to try and mitigate it by comparing it to anything really does nothing to keep folks from dying and becoming sick from it hour by hour right now in the 21st century.

We don't need to downplay what's going on. We need to deal with it. How does dredging up the past or comparing it to other conditions affecting loss of life or sickness change the present unless you just believe it's some minor annoyance blown out of proportion.

Because I believe it's a major problem blown out of proportion. Does it matter how big something is if it's blown out of proportion? If you use that argument you could say that the bigger it is the more it matters if it's blown out of proportion. My biggest beef with this is not how the medical community is dealing with it or even wearing masks or social distancing but that the dark men who broker power are using it to create hysteria with us to gain advantage. And their efforts they are damaging economies and causing us to be divided... Like this for instance And they don't give a rat's ass. As long as they get what they're after they couldn't care less if the world burns. In times like this we have to keep our heads. Becoming a chicken little does not help anything.

Edit: Good arguments though. Nice stuff to help us work it out.

Yes, men who control the world have always used whatever means are at their disposal to divide the populace to maintain control and enrich themselves at the expense of others.

But did you ever think just for a moment that this time it just might possibly be different. Personally I can think of 180,000 reasons why.

Anything is possible. I hate to use words like always and never so yes, it is possible. People said the same about the JFK assassination but 4 different committees concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I saw a really in depth documentary about the last one and have done some further reading and, yes it really looked sketchy but they were able to convince me it was at least possible if not likely that the events were just coincidence. I'm still open to believe that the Warren commission was wrong and that there was a coordinated effort involving many powerful players if the evidence was presented.
Maybe I'm (to coin a phrase from Stephen Stills) crazy and old before my time. There are just so many things that, in particular, politicians are bulldogging that it really seems coordinated.
At the very least players are piggybacking to effect power gain.

For me there is not much to work out about this pandemic. It is deadly serious and global in scale. There are a few simple things we all can do to mitigate, not eliminate, the risk of becoming infected and dying thereby not stressing the medical care systems past the breaking point. That requires everyone to get on the same page and practice these few simple precautions as much as is practically possible depending on their own individual circumstances. Once an effective vaccine becomes available and enough people get inoculated to lower the casualty rate to an acceptable level, similar to the common yearly flu, things will return to a more normal state.
