Well, you know that the American Revolution was not as much a unanimously approved venture as we were led to think in school. It was about evenly split in thirds, loyalists, patriots and those who were waiting to see how things shook out. We have NEVER been a country entirely made of frontiersmen. That's just Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett romance.

Well, even back then Frontiersmen were the stuff of dime magazines no different than the exploits of Buffalo Bill or Wild Bill or Wyatt Earp and the others in the 19th century. Folks in the big cities and those living on farms wanted to read about the made up exploits.
The way west was paved with the bones of those who never made it. They were just ordinary folk with no idea what awaited them.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

And that Paul is why the US has the highest Covid19 deaths in the entire world, because it's just fancy flu, blown out of proportion, and we should just get on with our lives.
How many of your countrymen have to die before your leaders and it seems a substantial number of the US population start to realize that it's not blown out of proportion.
You guys have gone from a pretty powerful country to a country full of cooties that a lot of other countries don't want anywhere near them, all because in the country with the highest death rate in the world from Covid19, it's not that big a deal.
Did you ever imagine, even for a second that you would be refused entry to Canada or England just for being American?
Incidentally, Covid19 is closer to pneumonia than flu.- - Steve

I am really enjoying this thread and verbally sparring without anyone getting upset and throwing their toys out of he pram.
BUT
No Guts no glory.
I don't even know how to respond to that.
I will leave this one to others, I'm quite sure you're gonna get one or two interesting responses.- - Steve

Funny I was just coming on to post a similar thought. You know I'm having a lot of fun yanking everyone's chain and I'm sure everyone's having fun yanking my chain. Thing is it's all great fun until someone severs a limb. Of course I'm playing devil's advocate some but this is the nitty-gritty. I am taking all the reasonable precautions that everyone should be taking. I go to people's houses to do work and I wear my face mask, I sanitize on the way in and sanitize on the way out. I tried to do things more for the sake of other people than even for myself so I'm really not doing anything differently from what you guys are doing. I'm calling BS on the politicians and other power brokers who are using something that should pull us together and using it to divide us.... That's it. I'm not really on a different page than anyone else here. It just aggravates me that the left blames this on Trump and the right blames it on the left and the fact of the matter is it's not helping anything or anyone. They are doing it to try to gain an advantage over the other and it really sickens me. I wish everybody here well and I hope you stay healthy and safe. We all know that we have to take precautions. We may not like it but why should we let people who don't give a rat's ass about us turn us against each other? That's what I'm calling BS on.

Oh, one other thing Bob. Asian people in particular do think differently than westerners. Haven't you ever seen the electroshock experiment? It originated I think in the fifties or maybe sixties. One of the networks did an expose on this recently. What they found was in particular Asian people would comply with shocking the subject up to the point where they were afraid it was going to do them physical harm because an authority figure told them to. The people who were least likely to do it were black women. Their hypothesis about it was that black women came from a culture where they were rebelling against an unfair authority so it was ingrained into their personality but overall they found that Western people were less likely to comply with authority than Eastern people were.
