What they found was in particular Asian people would comply with shocking the subject up to the point where they were afraid it was going to do them physical harm because an authority figure told them to. The people who were least likely to do it were black women. Their hypothesis about it was that black women came from a culture where they were rebelling against an unfair authority so it was ingrained into their personality but overall they found that Western people were less likely to comply with authority than Eastern people were.
Yup, I recall from High School that experiment to see if there was the possibility that concentration camp guard candidates could be found in the US. Never forgot that the answer was that you could.

Boy we're going way adrift nowBut the fact of the matter is it's real easy to say what you would and would not do and firmly believe it. The reality of it is sometimes very different though. My business can be very dangerous sometimes because of the nature of it. People want to drag you into the middle of their disputes and don't seem to mind using you as a human shield. There was one time that I actually really thought I was going to have to shoot a guy to defend myself and it scared me to death. People say oh I would have shot his ass. Yeah, let's see what you do when you get in that situation. The fact of the matter is you don't ever know until you're there. That's why military training is so intense on conditioning you to react to specific way.
I've known hunters that spent hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars on gear and a rifle and club membership and then got a deer in their sights and couldn't pull the trigger. add on top of that that we're not talking about a furry animal, we're talking about a human life. Still this is even an aside to the point I was making which is we are more impressionable than we think and we sometimes surprise ourselves what we will or will not do.

How much of a "fine" should the Chinese Communist Party pay for them breaking the "quarantine"?

Har har, if you be a hunter and can't pull the trigger on bambi you are no hunter.

I remember in my LE training many years ago the fact that many LE officers simple can't pull the trigger on a human or will hesitate while many more relish the thought and wish to be involved in incidents like that. In time many who find themselves in those circumstances react in ways seemingly unfathomable.

No one knows how they will react to a critical incident (talking the general public here) until they are tested. Most never will be but if you are, wishing and hoping and "training" will not prepare you. It's an inner thing some have and most don't.

Well I suppose I should say would be hunters. I've seen it more than once. As far as taking a human life I think it's a good thing to not want to. If you want to then that puts you in the category with people like Ted Bundy and John Wayne gacy. Potentially so at least. I will say though that for that moment when I have pulled the trigger and that animal is in the throes of death I feel compassion for it. It would worry me if you don't feel compassion for an animal that you're killing. That's another life that you're taking and it should not be done without consideration.

That's why in many cultures after a successful hunt they have a ceremony of sorts thanking the spirit for sacrificing itself so they could live.

Yeah, but I'm not sure in what context you are using the term.
There are "dark men" in every walk of life, not just in places of power, or in foreign countries.
Your front line staff have done a wonderful job, but the rest of the response looks to be a bit of a shambles to be honest.

    .
    Yeah, they are called psychopaths.
Frowned upon in the general public, but put them in the theatre of war and they are the heroes with a chest full of medals.
