We keep it simple in Timber Country

Log it, Graze it, or Watch it Burn

    the new one is

Log it, Graze it, or Choke on the Smoke

Charred logs up here were found to be highly valuable in making furniture, the loggers offered to clear them, clean up the land and replant They were sued by the Eco-Warriors until there was no profit in it

Now the river is polluted from the Charred run off

In neighboring MT the Head USFS guy was heard saying "I would rather watch it all burn than see one logging truck" It all burned a few years ago

In the Pine Beetle infested kill zones of the American SW that Standing Dead lumber is highly sought after by furniture companies that make "Rustico" style furniture. Yet they are stopped from taking the trees down by law suits

    This are just facts

If you believe in Climate Change yet block Forest Management Change you are the problem

On Private Land when a Tree dies we drop it and eliminate the problem, I also have to eliminate Ladder Fuel at least every 3 years around the house

But the idea of not doing Fire Prevention cleanup is just crazy to most of us that live in the woods we don't just let it burn...

Sounds like a few people here have never even started a chainsaw let alone cleared Dead and Dangerous trees

ps: If you are new to the "Smoke" game what really works to clean the air in your home

Buy that $19.98 20" Box Fan at Walmart go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the EXPENSIVE Hepa rated 20x20 air filter for about $10 and you Duct tape that to the back of the fan

You now have a Backwoods Smoke Eater.. It will do a great job of filtering your inside air for about 90 days Yes they really do work

I’m all for logging of dead wood and at risk live wood. It’s part of keeping a Forest healthy and the fire risk low. Cut a tree and plan the same tree back just keeps the cycle going. Around here it’s just the designated park areas that they want natural. They have logged and replanted tons of beetle kill. I have to say it sure smells strong when you are cutting it up for wood working projects. Good wood and a great way to reduce risks. They left over stuff they burn in the middle of winter when the risk of fire is very low. Some areas they chip it and compost it to enhance the soil before they replant. I have been told by a good source the a,punt of emissions is the same if you burn it or let it rot. The time it occurs over is the only difference.

I'm all for forest management and clearing trees and brush. When I lived in California I almost lost my house to a brush fire. It spread so fast a fire truck moving almost 30 MPH couldn't keep up with it.

An even better smoke cleaner is get one of those portable evaporative coolers. The filters are supplied by a continuous supply of water which will catch the smoke and any particulates. You just replace the water if it gets dirty and clean the filter.

    Default Here we go again

There's an uncontrolled wildland fire heading our way. It started in the Napa Valley yesterday,
and this morning it has grown to over 11,000 acres. They call that "explosive growth."

Evacuation orders are being issued for the eastern parts of Santa Rosa (north of us), and
the Bennett Valley (northeast of us).

The air is heavy with smokey haze and fly ash.

CalFire is calling this the Glass Fire Incident. We are in no immediate danger, but we call it
    too close for comfort.

Stay safe and have your razors and stones strops etc packed for immediate departure.
    Jewelry should also be.bundled up
Don't forget the wife and dogs. Kids optional
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Been thru all this at the beginning of the year so I know what it's like.
Hang in there Paul & evacuate if you have to.

Paul is this the Napa fire I am hearing about today that grew to 30k acres already and killed 3 people ???

I always said I am never going to fight a fire even though I have a suppression system that drops a line down the well..

Soak it all down and get out early my friend.

Hey Glen...Yes, this is the "Napa" fire that has now grown to 42,000+ acres. The reported deaths
occurred during the Zogg Fire, up in Shasta County.

There's a pretty good chance that the fire crews (1500+ on the line) can hold the line on the urban
interfaces (Santa Rosa and Calistoga). It all depends on the wind, which is forecast to change direction,
    from NE to SW.

We're OK here...5 or 6 miles from the SW front. Thanks for your concern.
