I never got serious about it, but I used to throw knives, hatchet, and double sided axes. There used to be some traditionals clubs around here, in the late 80s.
And we still have the " Log Cabin Shop" in Lodi, Ohio.
Its a all primitive shop, black powder only. They have meets throughout the year. Lots of cool stuff from days gone by. They even have a small museum of black powder weapons, and tools for making the rifling in the barrels, and such.Mike

I should add that if you find 6 paces is the range that the hatchet takes to do a full turn start from there. Then at 9 turn the blade backwards and it will do 1.5 revolutions to the target and land "upside down". 12 would be 2 turns. This is where the distance judging comes in.
With my hatchet I am closer to 7 paces to begin with.

Thanked: 81axe throwing is pretty popular up here, there are clubs all over the place now. I've only been once, while visiting a friend in Ottawa a couple years ago, but it was an absolute blast.
