Default Amazing stuff! You gotta check this out.

We went yesterday to Tampa to do a tour at a master's degree training school for prosthetics and orthopedics that my son is applying to. They do the most amazing stuff at this place. Making limbs and hands and feet and also cranial orthotics for babies with skull abnormalities. It's really fascinating stuff. One of the things that the lady showed us (who, by the way, we didn't know until the end was the founder of the school), they are doing was this video of a guy they call "The 6 Million Dollar Man." It's short but amazing. This is stuff that most of us when we were kids considered science fiction but today here it is in the flesh...so to speak.

He did shadowing at the VA here in the OR with the Orthopedic surgeons last summer planning on going into med school for it but in the course of the shadowing also worked with the CPO (Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist) and found out how cool that is. Now he's headed towards that instead after rethinking it.

In the UK the prosthetics available for the military amputees were of a very low quality. Some of the aircraft engineers made a few prosthetics and used parts from the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. If I recall it was a piston from one of the flaps or ailerons. The ones I saw were very well made.
